What is It

Farm equipment and their uses:

1. Tractor- is one of the essential machinery

on the farm. Nowadays this is common
farming equipment worldwide. Its power
and size allow it to work in rough terrain,
dragging or towing agricultural equipment.

2. Rake- the rake is a very common tool for

any types of farm. The main function of
this toothed bar is to loosen and level the
ground.

3. Shovel- it is made of tough and sharp

sheet metal. The shovel is one of the most
ancient equipment of farmers. The
general usage of this equipment is to dig
the soil.

4. Wheel borrow- is a small hand-propelled

carrier, with only one wheel, intended to
be pushed and guided by a single person
using two handles from the back that is
used for carrying loads.

5. Harvester- powerful machinery, cutting

combs for moving and rake. It can rotate
on an axis, ahead of the machine. This
machine has been able to reduce the use
of labor and production costs. It is the
modern technology for harvesting crops.

5
6. Sprinkler- a tool used to water farm
products, yards, etc. It is a technique for
applying water which is like natural
rainfall. Water is passing through a system
of channels usually by pumping. The
water splashed into the air through
sprinklers with the goal that it separates
into little water drops which fall to the
ground.

7. Seeder and fertilizer- they are equipment

developed to the place seeds directly and
to distribute fertilizers. As the name
implies, this agricultural equipment serves
to add fertilizer to the land. The fertilizer,
the drop tube, and the distributor are
loaded.

8. Baler-its main function is to make bundles

of cereal straw and other herbs in the field.

Farm tools and uses:

1. Spade- is used for removing trash or

soil, digging canals or ditches and
mixing soil media.

2. Shovel-is used in removing trash,

digging, loose soil, moving soil from one
place to another and for mixing soil
media.

6
3. Hand trowel- is used for loosening the
soil around the growing plants and
putting small amount of manure
fertilizer in the soil.

4. Pick-mattock- is used for digging

canals, breaking hard topsoil and for
digging up stones and tree stumps.

5. Knife- is for cutting materials and for

performing other operations in
horticulture.

6. Bolo-is used for cutting tall grasses and

weeds and chopping branches of trees.

7. Hand sickle- is a hand-held agricultural

tool with a variously curved blade
typically used for cutting weeds.

8. Grab-hoe- is used for breaking hard

topsoil and pulverizing soil.

9. Crowbar-it is used for digging big holes

and for digging big stones and stumps.

10. Hoses- a long plastic or rubber pipe,

used to direct water onto fires, gardens,
etc.

How to Practically and Effectively Maintain Farm Tools and Equipment

Farm tools and equipment help to make farm work easier and effective. There
are many of them intended to do one all a number of purposes. The design and
shape of tools and equipment should be given appropriate attention if they are
to do their function for which they were made. This brings to mind how to
effectively maintain farm tools and equipment.

Why do you have to maintain farm tools and equipment?

1. They last longer when maintained.

2. Tools and equipment that are maintained work more efficiently.
3. When you keep tools and equipment in good shape, you reduce the risk of
injury to the operator.
4. Regular maintenance reduces the cost of maintenance.

Proper Care, Maintenance of Farm Tools

1. Sharpen tool before and after use.

When you sharpen tools, it reduces the

amount of force you need to apply to
accomplish the task. Blunt tools may break
when being used.

2. Oil or grease metal parts.

This will prevent rusts of metal parts of tools

and equipment. Oiling the movable parts
makes the tools easy to work with. It also
increases the efficiency of the tool or
equipment.

3. Wooden handles should be strong.

Make sure tools with wooden handles are

strong and durable. If there is any defect,
replace them.

8
4. Hang your garden tools.

Keep your tools hanged. Leaving them on

the floor can cause rusts as they may come
in contact with moisture. Leaving tools on the
floor may cause injury to persons or persons
stepping on them may break or deform them,
causing them to be unsuitable for work.

5. Store tools in their original cases.

Some tools and equipment come in their

special cases to keep them protected for
damage. Make sure to clean and keep
them in their original cases.

6. Use silica gel packs.

Silica gel helps to keep tools dry in their

cases. Use silica gel to prevent rust of tools
and equipment with metal parts.

7. Dry Tools After Use

After using tools or equipment, clean and

make sure they are dried before packing or
hanging them. This will prevent them from
rusting.

8.Clean Tools After Each Use

To keep tools tidy, clean them after

each use. Wipe down with a rag or towel
to be sure they are free of dirt, grease
and debris. If the tools need extra care,
clean every metal surface with an
approved solution and scrape away any
soil and dirt. Completely dry the tool with
a towel or rag before it is placed in
storage.

9
9. Dispose of any Broken or
Defective Tools

As you do your cleaning, check for

damage or defects. If the tool cannot be
repaired, then throw it away. Do not
leave it to clutter up extra space.

10. Make a List of All items that are

Stored

Make sure to label the boxes with its

contents so you will be able to find the
tool when you need it. Keep an
inventory list of the tools that you have
and where they are stored.
