peaceful /ˈpiːsfl/
quiet and calm; not worried or disturbed in any way

relaxing /rɪˈlæksɪŋ/
helping you to rest and become less anxious

Role-play the dialog with your teacher twice, and learn the highlighted expressions by heart.

Jerry: Oh! This was the best vacation I’ve ever had in my life!

Brandy: The Bahamas is a really peaceful place. It must have been quite relaxing.
Jerry: Yes! After all the tight schedules (日程安排), it’s nice to have a peaceful vacation.
All I got was blue sea and a clear sky.
Brandy: Great! Did you take any pictures?
Jerry: Yes. I’ll be uploading them to Facebook today. You can check them out.
Brandy: That’s great!

Mogao Grottoes
Mogao Grottoes are the world-famous treasure houses
of art, also known as the Thousand Buddha Grottoes
(千佛洞).

Mogao Grottoes were founded in 336 AD, from the


Former Qin to the Yuan Dynasty.

Some of the paintings in Mogao Grottoes can even date


back to the fourth century, which are representative of
early Buddhist cave art (佛教洞窟艺术).
