GENERAL:
This Technical Publication describes the permanent countermeasure against Light Density image fault due
to a defective Developing High Voltage Contact.

DETAILS:
Symptom:
The density of an entire image is very light.

Cause:
The contact between the Developing Assembly [1] and the Developing High Voltage Contact Unit [2]
(Figure 2) on the main body may become oxidized. If this should occur, the density of the entire image will
be very light.

Factory:
The following countermeasures have been implemented to prevent contact failure between the Developing
Assembly [1] and the Developing High Voltage Contact Unit [2]:
1. The shape and material of the Rear Sleeve Bias Plate [3], the Roller Bias Plate [4] and the Contact Plate
[5] has been changed.
2. The shape of the Developing High Voltage Contact Unit [2] (Figure 6) has also been changed.

SERVICING PROCEDURE:
Service work:
Follow the procedure below when the abovementioned symptom occurs:
1. Remove the Developing Assembly [1] from the Main Body as described in the Service Manual: (Chapter
4 > Parts Replacement and Cleaning > Image Formation System > Removing the Developing Assembly).
2. Replace the Contact parts on the Developing Assembly [1] with the new type parts.
3. Open the Controller Box as described in the Service Manual: (Chapter 1> Product Overview > Features >
Service Features >Improved Upgrading Operability).
4. Disconnect the two (2) Connectors [6] from the back of the Main Body.
5. Unscrew the one (1) screw [7] to remove the Developing High Voltage Contact Unit [2].
NOTE:
Do not let the contact parts come into contact with the Boss of the Developing
Assembly during assembly.

6. Replace the Developing High Voltage Contact Unit [2] with the new type [E] (Figure 6) and attach it with
the one (1) screw [7].
7. Reconnect the two (2) Connectors [6] from step four (4).
8. Close the Controller Box and install the Developing Assembly [1] to the Main Body.
9. End.
