OBSERVATION NOTES ASPECTS IDENTIFIED

Teachers asked students to pay attention, be active
and participate waiting their turn to do it.
Then teachers showed a short video in which
students saw the name of some animals and the
sounds that they produce.
Then teachers asked students what they saw in the
video and some students answer.
After that teachers show some animals images and
then they produced an audio of the sound of that
each one of them produce.
Then teacher moved on to the activity that was a
crossword about only with the animals that they
showed previously.
Teachers showed pictures as clues and students
raised their hand and participated in the activity.
Students answer and the teacher write the word in
the crossword.
 The instructions were clear and specific.
 The class was dynamic and there was order
on it.
 Teachers implemented ‘how to illustrate de
meaning’ explained by Scott Thornbury in
his book “How to teach vocabulary” The
author affirms that there are different ways
to learn vocabulary and some of them are
through images, videos, oral practice,
mimicry and using real objects. This is also a
technique of Direct method (page 78)
 Teacher had a good attitude and they gave
everything what students needed to develop
the activity.
 The activity was too short and I think that it
did not allow teachers check if all the
students understand and learn the
vocabulary.
 There was not enough interaction between
students and teacher.
 Students was not totally involving in the
class; they only answer short question but
did not use the vocabulary in a sentence or
communicating something.

ANALYSIS

I think that use this kind of technique to teach vocabulary is so dynamic, and it help students to get
away the translation of words to understand and learn a specific vocabulary. I think that teachers
had a good attitude and they gave all what students needed to develop the activity, but also I think
that teachers could have had more interaction with the students and not only give them the
instructions and the material but also ask different questions for example, about their experiences
with some of the animals shown, what animals like them and why, and so on.
