SEMI-DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN PHYSICAL EDUCATION AND HEALTH

I. Learning Objectives
Given several exercises, the students are expected to do the following:
a. discuss the historical background and the basics of the sports, including
equipment, playing area, basics skills, and grips and strokes of the badminton
sports;
b. interpret the importance of sports;
c. play the sport applying the learned skills and rules of the game.
II. Content and Materials
A. Content
 Badminton
B. References
 Curriculum Guide (PE-CG) Grade 7 Book
C. Materials
 Laptop
 Speaker
 Television
 Shuttlecock
 Badminton racket.
III. Procedure
A. Review
-The teacher will ask the students about what they have learned in the previous
topic.
-The facilitator will say the following questions:
 What was the topic we had tackled last meeting?
 Can someone share to us a short yet brief history of sports?
 What are the different kinds of sports?
B. Motivation
- The teacher will provide pictures about badminton sports.
The teacher will instruct the learners to identify the pictures found below.

C. Activity
- After the identifying activity, the teacher will show to learners a set of jumbled
words (basic terminologies of badminton).
- Direction: Each learner should arrange the jumbled word(s). The learner will
raise the accurate word written in a rectangular shaped cardboard when the
teacher tells them to do so. The activity is a point system in which the learner who
got the most correct answers will receive an equivalent point (2 points each).
Everyone has 10 seconds to arrange the jumbled words.

D. Analysis
- The teacher will ask the class on what they have observed during the activity.
Guide Questions:
 Based on the activity, do you have any idea of its relationship to the sports
as a whole?
 Does anyone know how to play a badminton sport? Its history? Rules of
the game?
E. Abstraction
- The teacher will discuss and demonstrate the history, equipment and the basic
skills of the sports badminton.

F. Application
- The students are tasked to demonstrate the basic skills in playing badminton.
- The teacher will assess the student’s performance on the basic skills using the
following rubrics:
IV. Assessment
Test I. Directions: Read each statement carefully. Write the correct answer in the
blanks provided.
__________1. Extension of the court by l 1/2 feet on both sides for doubles play.

__________2. Area between the back boundary line and the long service line for doubles.

__________3. Back third of the court, in the area of the back boundary lines.

__________4. Any deceptive movement that disconcerts an opponent before or during the
service; often called a "feint."

__________5. Back boundary line at each end of the court, parallel to the net.

__________6. An illegal tactic, also called a sling or throw, in which the shuttle is caught and
held on the racquet and then slung during the execution of a stroke.

__________7. Location in the center of the court to which a singles player tries to return after
each shot.

__________8. Line perpendicular to the net that separates the left and right service courts.

__________9. A shot hit deep to the opponent’s back boundary. The high clear is a defensive
shot, while the flatter attacking clear is used offensively.

__________10. Area of play, as defined by the outer boundary lines.

__________11. A fast and low shot that makes a horizontal flight over the net.

__________12. A shot hit sohly and with finesse to fall rapidly and close to the net on the
opponent’s side.

__________13. A violation of the playing rules, either in serving, receiving, or during play (see
common faults listed below).

__________14. A quick wrist and forearm rotation that surprises an opponent by changing an
apparently soft shot into a faster passing one; used primarily on the serve and at the net.

__________15. Front third of the court, between the net and the short service line.

__________16. Shot made from below and very close to the net with the shuttle rising, just
clearing the net, and then dropping sharply down the other side. The shuttle’s flight approximates
the shape of a hairpin.
__________17. Gentle shot played by pushing the shuttle with little wrist motion, usually from
net or midcourt to the opponent’s midcourt.

__________18. The line 6 l/2 feet from the net which a serve must reach to be legal.

__________19. Hard-hit overhead shot that forces the shuttle sharply downward. Badminton’s
primary attacking stroke.

__________20. Shot that results when the base of the shuttle is hit by the frame of the racquet.
Once illegal, this shot was ruled acceptable by the International Badminton Federation in 1963.

Test II. Directions: Draw a badminton court with specific measurements. (20 points)
