The Effects of Self-Learning Module to the Academic Achievement of HUMSS 12- St.

Theodore of Columban College S.Y. 2020-2021

The Topic Under Investigation

The COVID19 required the educational system to shift from Face-to-Face learning to
Modular Distance Learning (MDL). Students may study at home using a self-paced learning
module supervised by parents or guardians under the New Normal.

According to authoritative DepEd documents such as the DepEd Order sequence of 2020,
during the pandemic, to provide learners with various learning modalities based on the needs of
both learners and parents.

The gaps that need to be addressed

There have been previous studies in the Philippines on the application of module to
elementary and high school students (Abella, 2018; Icban, 2019; Gatmaitan and Bugayong,
2019), but none in senior high school (Abella, 2018; Icban, 2019; Gatmaitan and Bugayong,
2019).

The parents' comments and literary reviews revealed to the researcher that some students
and parents welcomed the modality without understanding the consequences or issues that would
arise at the start of the school year in the New Normal. Besides, there has been little research on
the effects of self-directed learning modules on students' academic success.

The research goal

The study aims to determine if self-paced learning modules have any significant effects
on students' academic results.

The significance of the study

As a result, through improved Modular Distance Learning, this study will provide
evidence to strengthen the learning delivery mode in the New Normal.
