LESSON PLAN IN MATHEMATICS

CONVERTION OF DEGREE TO RADIAN AND VICE-VERSA

I. Objectives

At the end of the lesson, the students are expected to:

a. define radian and degrees

b. convert angle measure in degrees to radian and vice-versa

II. Subject Matter:

Topic: Circular Function and Trigonometry

Subtopic: Degrees and Radians

Materials: Cartolina, marker, Manila paper

References: Dilao, Solidad Jose et.al( Advance Algebra, Trigonometry and Statistics)

III. PROCEDURES

A. Preliminary Activities

1. Prayer

In the name of the father, the son, the holy spirit. Amen

Dear Lord and Father of all,

Thank you for today.

Thank you for ways in which you provide for us all. For Your protection and love

we thank you. Help us to focus our hearts and minds now on what we are

about to learn.Inspire us by Your Holy Spirit as we listen and write. Guide us by

your eternal light as we discover more about the world around us.

We ask all this in the name of Jesus. Amen.

In the name of the father, the son, the holy spirit. Amen

2. Greetings

Teacher: Good morning class!

Students: Good morning ma'am!

3. Checking of Attendance

Teacher : Say present when your name is called. Paglinawan, Angelica?

Angelica: Present.

Teacher : Decamon, Jelly?

Jelly : Present

Teacher : Arizala, Anabel?

Anabel: Present

4. Review

Teacher: Who can differentiate negative and positive angle?

Angelica: Positive angle rotates in a counter-clockwise direction while negative angle rotates in
a clockwise direction. Positive angle measures between 0 and 360 degrees however, negative angle
measures between 0 and -360 degrees.

Teacher: Very good.

5. Motivation

Teacher: Okay class group yourselves into four groups. Then create a short poem entitled
“MATH is Easy”, and write it on manila paper. After that present your work in front. The group who can
create/make a beautiful essay and presentation can get extra points that will serve as your recitation. I
will give you 15 minutes to do the task.

B. Developmental Activities

1. Presentation

The study of circular function necessitates an understanding of the relationship between the degrees
and radians and their corresponding conversions.

Degrees measure angles by how far we tilted our heads. Radians measure angles by distance traveled
or angle in radians (theta) is arc length (s) divided by radius (r).

The circumference of the circle is 2π times the radius and consequently it subtends a central angle of
2π radian.

Since the circumference of the circle is subtended by a central angle of 360° , and 2π radians, it
follows that
2π radian = 360°

π radian = 180°

If π radian (180°) is divided by π,

1 radian = 180°/π

If π radian (180°) is divided by 180°,

1° = π/180 radian

To summarize conversion:

1.) To convert radians to degrees, multiply the given number of radians by 180° / π.

Example:

5/6 π radian = 5π/6 × 180°/π = 150°

2.) To convert degrees to radians, multiply the given number of degrees by π/180.

Example:

50° = 50° × π/180 = 5π/18 radian

2. Generalization

Teacher : Again, what is the difference between the radians and degrees?

Anabel: Degrees measure angles by how far we tilted our heads. Radians measure angles by
distance traveled or angle in radians (theta) is arc length (s) divided by radius (r).

Teacher: Very good. Who can summarize the conversion of radians to degrees, degrees to
radians?

Jelly: To convert radians to degrees, multiply the given number of radians by 180° / π. To convert
degrees to radians, multiply the given number of degrees by π/180.

Teacher: Very good.

C. Application

Teacher: Okay who can solve this problems on the board?

Convert the following measures:

A.. 30°

B. π/2
IV. Evaluation

Convert the following to degree measure:

1.) π/4

2.) 3π/4

3.) π/5

Convert to radians measure

4.) 180°

5.) 75°

V. Assignment

Write in ½ sheet of paper. Convert the following to radians or degree measures:

1.) 450°

2.) 200°

3.) 3π/5

4.) π/10

5.) 11π/6
