Negative Exponent

Very good! You got the right

answers for our activity. Now,
let’s have another activity to
widen your vocabulary.
Additional Activity: For the new
lesson. (5 Minutes)
Group activity. 3 groups (Internet
group, Book group and Group
Opinion or w/o references)
There are 3 rows, so the first row
will be Internet Group, 2nd Book
group and 3rd Opinion Group.
(Note that you will not stand
up, you will assign your leader
and presenter, just give your
answer to your leader in a ¼
sheet of paper. And use your
personal alcohol in every
activity)
Please use google search engine
or books to answer the following
terms for our new topic. Write it
in a ¼ sheet of paper and every
group will present their answer.
1. Zero Exponent
2. Negative Exponent
5 minutes is now over. Let’s start
with Internet group, Book and
Opinion Group.
Group Internet : Good day everyone. As we explore
using the internet. The zero exponent rule basically
says that any base with an exponent of zero is equal
to one. And for Negative exponent also are exactly
what they are named; they are exponents that happen
to be negative. For example we have “n” means a
number and with an exponent of negative number.

Mathematics, Zero Exponent Rule: a0 = 1, a not equal

to 0. The expression 00 is indeterminate, or undefined.
A negative exponent, we need to create a fraction and
put the exponential expression in the denominator
and make the exponent positive.
Opinion Group: In our opinion Zero exponent means a
number which have zero exponent example 2 raise to
0. And negative exponent also means a number which
have negative exponent like 2 raise to -2.
Wow! Very good students. You
have found the correct
descriptions and understand
what it meant. But there are
some important details not
mentioned.
(Indicator 3. Use effective
verbal and non-verbal
classroom communication
strategies to support learner
understanding, participation,
engagement, and
achievement.)
(Indicator 4. Establish safe
and secure learning
environment to enhance
learning through the
consistent implementation of
policies, guideline, and
procedure.)

B. Establishing a Purpose
for the Lesson (ENGAGE)
After the activity the teacher will
ask student what will be the new
lesson from the given activity the
teacher will present the
objectives.

Now, let us keep in mind on

how to simplify zero and negative
exponent.

Negative Exponent Rule:

In other words, when there is a

negative exponent, we need to
create a fraction and put the
exponential expression in the
denominator and make the
exponent positive. For example,

(Sa negative exponent rule,

kailangan nating gawin itong
fraction at ilagay sa baba o
denominator upang maging
positive exponent.)

But working with negative

exponents is just rule of
exponents that we need to be
able to use when working with
exponential expressions.

Zero Exponent Rule: (From the

answer of student A)

The zero exponent rule basically

says that any base with an
exponent of zero is equal to one.
a0 = 1
Example:
20 = 1
12564260 = 1

(Kahit anong number basta

ang exponent ay zero is equal
lang talaga sa 1.)

(Indicator 2. Throughout the

lesson the teacher will explain
the lesson using Mother
Tongue, Filipino and English
to facilitate teaching and
learning.)
C. Presenting Examples/
Instances of the Lesson
(EXPLORE)
Simplify: 1.

(For the 2 raise to zero we have

equal to one using zero exponent.
Sa 3 raise to negative 2 naman ay
negative exponent rule. Make it
as a fraction at 3 raise 2 is equal
to 9, means 3x3 is 9. And for the
lower part we have 3 raise to 1.
Make it a fraction so 1/3.)
(Next step we will add 1 + 1/9
equal to 10/9. And 1/3 then
divide the two.)
(To solve the following. We have
the quotient rule. If
fraction ,multiply the
denominator to to numerator.
Now. We have 10x3= 30 and 9x1=
9 . 30/9 reduced we get 10/3.)
2.

Follow up questions.

Student A: The activity was quite easy especially in

zero exponent because any number raise to zero is
just equal to one.

Student B: Ma’am in simplifying negative exponent we

find it difficult because we are confused.
Okay that’s nice to know.
Anyone also have an idea?

Okay don’t you worry we will

practice more and have other
examples.
Number 2 and 3?

Okay very good! Lets practice

more examples.

The flow of the lesson the activity

was started with answering in
chorus, group activity, pair and
for the evaluation will be

E. Application
To fully understand our
lesson. Let’s try to apply the
importance of an exponent.

Student A: Ma’am, to help minimize the spread of the

virus I will maintain social distancing, wear mask
always.
