TASK 2 KNOWLEDGE IS POWER

Answer the following questions below:

1. “Knowledge is Power”. Define the meaning of the statement while connecting information literacy
to it.
A person’s literacy equips him in achieving a greater future for himself, thus, allowing him power or
control over what he ought to pursue without having anyone dictate his fate.  When one strives for
continuous and active learning, knowledge is established which cannot be taken away by anyone.
Rather knowledge can be used as a weapon in thriving towards a brighter future. Anyone who desires
power aims for learning.  However, there are undeniable instances who uses knowledge to overpower
others.  This should not be the case.  The more knowledge we acquire, the more we should impart to
others.  This is the real power in knowledge – how we use it in growing ourselves and others, and
allowing it to empower all others especially the weak (or the illiterate).

2. How does information become knowledge?

In our daily life, we come across so many new things and gain information. Information is processed
data whereas knowledge is information that is modeled to be useful. We often, do not reason or
question the information we get. Information that is modelled and useful and can be practically applied,
is called knowledge. When you have knowledge, you get the power of questioning. But one should
always remember that one should have information, in order to be knowledgeable. To get information
you do not need exhibit powers or be a superhero in any fields, but to be knowledgeable, you have to
have cognitive and analytical skills.

Because it is an important part of being a responsible, trustworthy and exceptional student is citing
your sources especially when you are a journalist and part of the school publication. Not only does
crediting the resources you use provide proof of the research you conducted and enhance your
credibility, it also helps you avoid any form of plagiarism. The outputs the made are really deserved to
be respect and acknowledgement. Giving proper credit is especially essential when you use
copyrighted material for profit as part of your business, because you may be sued for copyright
infringement. It's a common misconception that simply giving credit is enough to avoid copyright
infringement but this is not the case. Also, to consider someone as having good qualities or good
achievements.
