What’s New
Activity 1. Study the technological advances below then answer the questions that follow.
Write your answer in your activity notebook.

Guide Questions:
1. Which ones already exist?
Cellphones, laptops, tablets, computers, headphones, microphones, etc.

2. Which ones do you think might become a reality next year? Explain your answer.
I think that all of the products or tech things on the picture are already what we have now in
reality and most people use each of those products in their daily life.

3. Do you think these technological advances can make communication in life better?
We've been lulled into believing that communication is becoming easier because technological
advances make it easier to send and receive messages. Yes, it's easier to send and receive
messages today, but it's important to remember that real communication is as hard, and may
be even harder, than it ever was.

4. What problems or issues can they solve?

Boredom, Health Problems (through researching), Keeping up the bond (or being updated on
each other’s life happenings) of a two or more people far from each other, Curiosity, Financial
problems (through using social platforms).

5. What possible issues can you foresee with these technologies? Explain your answer.
The possible issues I see with these technologies are the following:
1. Technologies will be used in crime like cybercrimes and cyberbullying.
2. Technologies will be abused by undisciplined people.
3. Technologies will be the cause for addiction.
4. Technologies will be the cause for death. Example you have someone you’ve met online
and you decided to meet up with that person, you did go the meet up place and you
find out that, that person is a criminal or has a bad intention to you. It can maybe
robbery, or much worse can happen is to rape and kill you.

What I Have Learned

Activity: Let’s summarize our lesson by answering the following questions. Do it in your activity
notebook.

1. What is MOOC?
Massive Open Online Content (MOOC) is defined by Educause as a model for delivering learning
content online to any person who wants to take a course, with no limit on attendance.
2. How was MOOC made possible today?
The massive open online course (MOOC) is an online phenomenon made possible by: (1) social
networking facilitation of acknowledged expert(s) in a field of study; (2) freely accessible online
resources; and (3) hundreds to thousands of registered students.

3. How is it different from taking a course from a college or university?

MOOC offers university-level courses without the need to complete an entire program of
studies, and are becoming increasingly popular. They offer a large number of students the
opportunity to study high-quality courses online with prestigious universities, often at no cost.
They are ideal for independent study and users can select courses from any institution offering
them. MOOCs do not always lead to formal qualifications. There are no entry requirements
unlike if you take a course from a college or university.

4. How is it changing or influencing education at present?

MOOC allows learners to acquire knowledge which interests them the most through a network
of independent learning, and apply the knowledge. Traditional teachers should adapt and learn
in this wave of MOOC, change from “teaching based” to “learning-based”.

What I Can Do
Based on your observation of the current trend of media, predict one innovation in the field of
education in the near future. Describe it 3-5 sentences.

Education trends will ride the wave of increased internet capabilities and higher network
bandwidth, bringing advanced technology into schools with greater ease. Two of the major
areas of next-wave technology are augmented reality and virtual reality (AR/VR). Augmented
reality devices enhance real-world materials, such as making a map jump off a page, while
virtual reality products create an immersive digital world in which students interact in virtual 3D
worlds that enhance learning experiences.
