What’s New
Activity 1

1. How would you be informed of anything now?

If I awoke one day to find nothing, such as no internet, libraries, or
cellphones, as well as no newspapers, magazines, radio stations, or
television channels, I would be informed by connecting with others,
writing letters, and observing. There are many means to get informed,
just as there were before, individuals still become informed through
their means of creativity and knowledge, so waking up without those is
not a big concern.
2. What ways would you have to communicate with one
another?
I communicate with others through oral communication, such as
talking, gestures, facial expressions, eye contact, and touch, as well as
through writing letters, creating art, and other means of
communication that can convey a message.
3. How would you share information and communicate news
and events?
I would share information and convey news and events through
writing because I can say everything and provide everyone the
information, they need with all the facts and thoughts they need
without having to worry how accurate the information, news, and
event disseminated is.
4. How would it affect the way you live?
I don't think it will have an effect on how I live because losing those
isn't a big problem for me; we can live without them just what people
did before, and I believe that without them, my life is tranquil and
away from the chaos of reality.
5. What society lose in this situation?
Since everyone nowadays relies on the internet, libraries, and
cellphones, as well as newspapers, magazines, radio stations, and
television stations, society would lose an easier way to obtain
information or communicate.

Activity 2. Based from the activity above, answer the following:

a. How do Media Literacy, Information Literacy, and Technology
Literacy differ in terms of use?
Media literacy refers to your knowledge of the media, how it
operates, and how it is presented, as well as your awareness that it is not
always objective or factual. Much of it is likely to be inaccurate or
prejudiced. Media literacy is a critical and informed understanding of the
media.
I'd combine information literacy and reading literacy in the sense
that it's your understanding/comprehension of the information offered to
you in any media, whether it's reading, television, audio, or otherwise.
The ability to recognize when information is required and to find, locate,
assess, and effectively apply that information to the situation or problem
at hand.
Technology literacy refers to how well you understand technology,
how well you utilize it, and how well you can use it to your daily life or
job, among other things. I, for example, can typically figure out most
devices without consulting a guidebook. My mother is a spreadsheet
master, while my father can do almost anything with a PowerPoint
presentation. Our technical literacy strengths are those, but I can only
perform basic spreadsheet functions, and my mother still has no idea how
Instagram and Snapchat work. The ability to successfully obtain and
communicate information via new media such as the internet.
b. Are they similar in form? Elaborate.
No, they may appear to be similar, but it depends on the devices
used, because media literacy requires the ability to read, analyze,
evaluate, and produce communication in a variety of media forms,
whereas information literacy requires the ability to recognize when
information is required and to locate and evaluate it. While technology
literacy refers to the ability to locate, evaluate, use, and create
information using digital technology, communication tools, or networks,
information literacy refers to the ability to use digital technology,
communication tools, or networks to locate, evaluate, use, and create
information in various formats.
c. Are they similar in use? Elaborate.
Despite the fact that media literacy, information literacy, and
technology literacy appear to be distinct fields, they all aim to improve
people's capacity to access, comprehend, use, and generate media
messages or information. They've long been considered as being
intertwined in the literacy family.

What I Have Learned

Answer the following concisely.
1. In your opinion, what makes an individual literate in media and
information?
What makes a person media and information literate, in my opinion,
is the ability to evaluate and identify what is fake news and what is not.
They must also be able to digest and comprehend the information given
to them, as well as possibly express it to others.

2. What activities/habits do you practice which illustrate media

and information literacy? Give at least three examples.
Online shopping, posting, watching movies, reading articles, and
other activities involving electronic devices and media platforms are some
of the actions/habits that I engage in to demonstrate media and
information literacy.
3. In your own words define media literacy, information literacy
and technology literacy.
The ability to access, analyze, evaluate, and produce
communication in a number of ways is referred to as media literacy. In
summary, someone who is media literate can evaluate what they see,
hear, and read in books, newspapers, magazines, television, radio,
movies, music, advertising, video games, the Internet, and new
developing technology. Information literacy is defined as the ability to
recognize when information is required, as well as the ability to identify,
locate, assess, and apply that information effectively for the topic or
situation at hand. Technology literacy is the ability to communicate, solve
issues, access, manage, integrate, evaluate, and produce information
responsibly in order to increase learning in all subject areas and acquire
lifelong knowledge and skills in the 21st century.

What I Can Do
Assessment

The illustration depicts media, information, and digital literacy,

which refers to the set of skills, attitudes, and knowledge required to
recognize when information is needed to solve a problem or make a
decision, how to articulate that information need in searchable terms and
language, then search efficiently for the information, retrieve it, interpret
and understand it, organize it, assess its credibility and authenticity, and
communicate it to others. Literacy is intertwined with understanding how
to learn and critical thinking, as the illustration also implies.
