Philippines” by Bea Grace Pascual.

The Digital Revolution may have occurred at such a rapid pace that we are unable to grasp the
extent to which it has affected various aspects of society. And the worst part is that it's just the
beginning. According to the creative agency We Are Social and social media management
platform Hootsuite's Global Digital Survey 2019, there are about 4.39 billion internet users in
2019. That's about 40% of the world's population, up 366 million (9%) from January 2018.
Social Media in the Philippines
According to We Are Social, 76 million Filipinos use social media, accounting for 71 percent of
the country's total population. According to the numbers, Filipinos spend an average of four
hours a day on various social media platforms. Although it is undeniable that the country's
internet infrastructure is far from ideal, Filipinos are still fond of sharing their experiences on
social media.
Social interactions are an important part of our everyday lives, so it's no surprise that they
apply to our social media accounts.
Filipinos still use the internet to stay up to date on current affairs and to get important news. It
has also been used as a forum to present and spread advocacies, which encourages people to
become more active in society.
According to both SimilarWeb and Alexa, Google remains the most visited site worldwide,
followed by video streaming site YouTube in second place. With 75 million monthly active
users, Facebook continues to lead the rankings in the Philippines, despite being ranked third
globally.
