CANDIDATE’S AGENDA

Guide Questions for All Candidates

Personal Leadership

1. What are your qualities that you believe can make a great leader?

I sincerely believe that I have characteristics of a good leader, although some of them could be
different from the more conventional ones. For example, I am a team player and care about the wellbeing
of others, I try my best to help everyone in their time of need, I am generally patient about things, and I
really celebrate success in a very enthusiastic way. I think that these qualities are good enough for me to
be able to be some type of a good leader. However, I am human so I am not perfect and lack certain traits
of a good leader. For instance, I often do not use language that is easy to understand because I use many
“big” words, I do not really give people second chances because I feel that one chance is all they need,
and also, I am not the best person to communicate. Most of the time I try not to do these things, but these
bad things still happen once in a while because I am frustrated or aggravated at something. For the most
part, I am a calm and reasonable person that helps people out. Overall, I am a pretty good leader in some
areas and like to help others in their time of need. However, I am only a good leader depending on the
situation and that is the major thing. Empathy is a key skill of a good leader. No matter how different
people are to me, I still be able to step in their shoes and think from their perspective. To be a good leader
he/she need also to listen to his/her followers. Committing to missions and purposes is my goal and I can
keep my promises and words because a true leader is a trusted person. And I believe I am qualified with
that. Lastly, I think before I speak. I know that I am responsible enough to my actions and words which is
one characteristic of a good leader.

Organizational Leadership

2. As a President, which is most important in an organization – mission, core values

or vision?

There are no rankings for vision, mission and core values. All these matters to an organization to be
successful. Vision is something which tells where an organization should be in long term, it also the aim is
to reach the highest point of success with sustained stability of an organization. Mission is something which
tells the stages to reach vision. And Core values is the guiding principles which will ensure sustainability of
an organization to achieve their mission and vision. Without this, an organization may not succeed in its
vision. Values are the path to prevent organization getting in to legal hurdles, become preferred employer
and maintain ethical standards. All three are must, there are no ranks for any of them. Good vision, mission,
and values statements are all of equal importance, but what is most important is how senior leadership uses
them. If they are not the basis for everything the organization does.

Public Leadership

3. How do you want to see Student Government in 5 years’ time?

Student government is all teamwork, everything you do involves coordinating with other people in
leadership positions. Being able to work effectively in a team is a hugely desired skill in the working
world and getting lots of experience in college will prepare you for your future career. So, I want to see
Student Government in 5 years’ time as an independent student government composed of capable,
dignified and dedicated students who can organize school affairs and student services in coordination with
the school administration. Also, to improve the school by engaging more activities to all members of the
school community.

Guide Questions for Each Position

For the President:

1. What is your vision as President of the school’s Supreme Student

Government? How are you going to translate this vision into a reality?

2. What priority programs (top 3) will you introduce as a President in Student

Government? How will these programs be beneficial to your fellow learners?

3. Given the new normal set-up, how will you encourage your fellow learners to
participate in the school’s activities?

For the Vice President:

1. How do you plan to work harmoniously with the President?

2. As the Chairperson of the Internal Affairs Committee, what are the top 3
Programs, Projects, and Activities (PPAs) that you plan to implement?

For the Secretary:

1. As the Chairperson of the Secretariat Committee, how do you plan to

document proceedings of meetings in the new normal set-up?

2. What are your plans on making the organization’s documents accessible to all
learners?

For the Treasurer:

1. As the Chairperson of the Finance Committee, how do you uphold

transparency and accountability in your term of office?
2. How do you plan to utilize the budget of the organization considering the new
normal set-up?

For the Auditor:

1. As the Co-chairperson of the Finance Committee, how do you plan to work

collaboratively with the Treasurer?

The role of the finance committee is primarily to provide financial oversight

for the organization. Typical task areas for small and midsized groups include
budgeting and financial planning, financial reporting, and the creation and
monitoring of internal controls and accountability policies. Since I am studying ABM
strand which means Accountancy Business and Management, and a student who is
running for the position for auditor, it is an advantage for me to perform the
responsibilities and task. To answer the question, I can cooperate with the treasurer
to ensure policies and procedures for financial transactions to be documented in a
manual, and the manual is reviewed annually, and updated as necessary. Also, to
utilize and monitor adherence the budget by listing or ensuring handouts and reports
considering that we are now facing the new normal set-up and present all financial
goals and proposals to the organization for approval. And I believe I am qualified for
that position.

2. What policy recommendation can you introduce to lessen the occurrences of

dishonesty among learners?

Ensuring academic honesty is a challenge for traditional classrooms,

but more so for online education where technology use is axiomatic to
learning and instruction. It is alright to use some different sites to learn not
until plagiarism were adopt. As a candidate for a student organization, I want
to implement Supporting Academic Honesty in Online Education.
Technology may provide more opportunities for academic dishonesty, and
plagiarism is one of many opportunities to cheat. So, to avoid cheating, I want
to implement the use performance assessments rather than objective tests to
limit opportunities for cheating and plagiarism. Aligning assessment type
with instructional objectives may identify new opportunities to use
performance for practice. Using performance for low-stakes formative
assessment or high-stakes summative assessment at the end of the course can
also make it less appealing and more difficult to cheat or plagiarism. Using a
variety of assessment methods so that student achievement is measured in
different ways that makes it more difficult to cheat.

For the Public Information Officer (PIO):

1. What are your plans and strategies to build and maintain a credible image of
the organization?

2. As the Chairperson of the Publicity Committee, how do you plan to

disseminate information within the organization and within the school in the
new normal set-up?

For the Protocol Officer:

1. As the Chairperson of the Students’ Welfare Committee, how do you plan to

29
process student grievances and complaints?

2. How do you plan to enforce proper decorum during the organization’s

meetings?

For the Grade Level Representative:

1. What are your plans on representing your respective grade level considering
diversity of learners?

2. What can you bring to this position that will help promote growth in the
learners under your grade level?
