SAINT LOUIS COLLEGE HIGH SCHOOL DEPARTMENT warmly welcomes you, dear Louisian
for the Academic Year 2022-2023! Congratulations for choosing Saint Louis College as your
second home and your partner to your success!

YOUR SUBJECT’S
OVERVIEW...

The textbook/workbook “Sustained

Christian Life” is for Grade 9 high school
students. It is designed to help us come up with
a personal response to keep and nourish the
faith that has been planted in us like a seed
that awaits nourishments and sustenance. We
constantly need God’s grace and divine
assistance to sustain us especially as we grow
to maturity. Teenage life in particular is marked
by a number of changes. It opens us to a
greater amount of independence and greater
responsibilities. Life’s challenges become
complex and complicated. Discernment and personal decision making will also commence as
we search for our vocation in life. This is also the time that as Christians we are expected to
respond to God’s love in a more responsible and personal manner.

Thus, Unit I will introduce us to the “Presence of the Holy Spirit in the Church.” It will inspire
us to make ourselves the temple of the Holy Spirit individually and as a community. Unit II, on the
other hand, will call us forth to sustain our Christian life with God’s presence and grace through
the Seven Sacraments. Then, Unit III will encourage us to profess and deepen our prayer life as
we participate actively in the apostolate of the Church.

Identity
TIME ALLOTMENT: 6 HOURS
WEEK ALLOTMENT: 2 WEEKS

OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, you are expected to:

A. identify the importance of school’s vision and mission;

B. be proud of your Louisian identity by giving ways on how you can show the true
meaning of being a Louisian; and
C. construct a tagline that would best represent what SLC is for you.

PRELIMINARY ACTIVITY
As we start this new Academic Year 2022-2023, allow me to welcome you first and say
my sincerest words of gratitude and joy for choosing to journey with the SLC community. I am
happy to be part of your Grade 9 journey. I hope you are too. I am looking forward to the many
fruitful opportunities and memories we can share together along the way. I will do my best to
teach and reach out to you. I hope that you’ll also give your best in doing your part as a student.
I am rooting for you! Once again, welcome back to school, Louisian!

At this moment, let’s begin with an activity which is just simple and easy to follow. I will be
presenting different logos we often see in the internet or anywhere. For each logo, think of one
thing or word that is directly related to it (not the name of the logo or brand itself) - it can be
their services, product, or anything they are known for. Are you ready? It’s your time to look at
the logos below:

I am confident that you were able to think of some words similar to what I have thought
of when I saw such logo. Kindly recall the different words or things that came into your mind
after seeing each logo. Now, answer and reflect on the following questions on your own:
a. Why is it the first thing that came into your mind?
b. Do they have something in common? What is it?

We have been seeing those logos and other logos around us. Guess what! All of them
have an identity. All companies, institutions, and organizations have an identity. Actually, you,
yourself, have too. What do you think is your identity? What is that thing you have or do that
make you stand out or let others know that it’s totally you?

Aside from the abovementioned examples that have an identity, remember that SLC,
our beloved school, has also her own identity or “pagkakakilanlan.” That is what we are going
to talk about in this module. What is the importance of our school’s identity?

LESSON PROPER
Before we go further in our discussion in this module, I just want
to ask: What made you choose SLC? Is it because of the proximity of
our school to your house? Is it because of your parents’ decision or
your own? Is it because of your peers or friends who are also studying
at SLC? Or is it because of the fact that our school offers quality
education and services? We all have our own reasons why we chose
or are still choosing SLC. I hope that as we discuss our lesson, you’ll
come to know and love SLC more.

Let us now move on to the most important points of our lesson in this module. As we go
on with our discussion, I want you to refer to the attached paper which contains the complete
information of SLC’s Vision-Mission statements, Core Values, and the Louisian Identity on page 9
of this module. Please bear in mind that our Vision-Mission statements, Core Values, and the
Louisian Identity form part in the identity of our school in general. As a Louisian, it is just right and
proper that you know such.

We begin with the institutional vision of our school. Please read and
try to understand the vision of SLC presented on page 9 of this module.
You need to be aware that when we say vision, it states what we imagine,
desire, or dream SLC to become. If we look at and read our school’s vision,
we can truly say that SLC dreams big, right? There’s nothing wrong with
that. Simply put, SLC aspires/dreams to become the leading and center
for innovative education in Northern Philippines. Innovative education, in
simpler words, is about creating something new that will help provide
better and quality education to students. Other than that, SLC desires that
every Louisian (faculty, staff, and students like you) be influenced or
guided by Christ’s values and be of service to the world. As part of the SLC family, what can you
personally do to achieve or put into reality the vision of our school? Take note, it is one of our
responsibilities to contribute something for the betterment of our school and the realization of
such vision. Besides, we are a family. That is what family is for – helping one another for a
common goal.

Let’s now proceed to the institutional mission of our school. What do you think is the
mission for? What is the essence of it in or for our school? What is its connection to the vision of
our school? Mission states how we are going to achieve our goal or in other words, our vision. It
presents us the ways on what we can do or what we can contribute to help SLC realize her
vision. So, based on the mission statement of our school, what then can you do or contribute?

As Louisians, we need to nurture (foster) missionary stewardship. In

other words, we need to serve others without expecting anything in return.
Part of our service is taking care of God’s creation because we are God’s
stewards. Take note that creation doesn’t only refer to the environment, but
to humans as well – both living and non-living things. In short, we truly need
to care and be responsible for all of God’s creation because He entrusted it
to us. Have you already done acts of service to God’s creation? If yes, then
you are helping SLC realize her goal. Above all, you are being a good
steward of God. Nurturing missionary stewardship also entails being
animated or moved by communal or shared progress among people (collective growth), being
open to new, effective, and creative ideas that support growth and learning (innovation-driven
education), being productive and using one’s gifts or talents for the common good or the
community (talent-enriched community life), and following Jesus’ examples of service which is
being responsive to the needs of the Church and society (servant-leadership). Putting all those
elements together, indeed, realizing SLC’s vision is challenging, but is possible especially if we

do it as a family. Do you think you can do it? Don’t worry, SLC also does her part in serving you.
She commits herself to design and deliver quality services that help you, our learners, be
transformed. Indeed, the presence of unity and cooperation in our school should be evident in
order to realize our vision - you have your part, SLC has too.

We now move on to the Core Values of SLC. Always remember that our core values are
patterned or anchored from the values exemplified by Fr. Theophile Verbist and St. Aloysius
Gonzaga. In your two-year stay in SLC, how have you shown or exemplified those three core
values in your lives?

Are you loving and living like Christ? If yes, then you are being
Christ-centered. Aside from that, always remember that we need to
sustain our relationship with God and grow in our knowledge and faith in
Him by praying, reading the Bible, attending Masses, and the like. In this
world full of distractions and busyness, are you still giving time to God?

Are you loving what you do and doing what you love?
If yes, then you are exemplifying the value of excellence. It
doesn’t only mean being intelligent or smart. It also means
being disciplined in everything we say and do especially
when we are dealing with people – be it in social media or in
person. In short, to be excellent means doing the right things
and doing things right. Are you always doing the right things?
Do you have the courage to stand for what is right? When you
do what is right, you will not stand alone because God will always be by your side.

Are you serving God in and through others with love? If

you’re doing that, then you are showing the value of missionary
in your life. In simpler words, it means being of service to the
needy, the least, the last, and the lost – those people who are
less fortunate. Examples of people who are in need are those
with disabilities and who are jobless, bullied, poor, abused, and
the like. Whenever you see someone in need (online or in
person), what do you usually do?

At this juncture, let us take a look at the Louisian Identity – our should-be identity. This is
what we should do and possess as members of the Louisian family. Simply put, a Louisian like
you and I should be a missionary disciple of Jesus who is always of service to people. We are to
be a lifetime believer in spreading the Word of God and a
traveler in searching for our life’s true purpose and meaning.
Moreover, if we are to be a seat of quality and transformative
CICM education, we need to embody the truth that we are
undergoing the process of transformation and development.
True transformation and development should be seen in our ways
of living – doing what is right and serving others. Lastly, as
Louisians, we need to be like Christ who is compassionate and a
committed servant. We are not just servants for the people close
or dear to us. We are servants for the whole humankind. With all
that being said, how are you living up to your Louisian identity?

As you can see, SLC’s vision-mission statements, core values, and the Louisian identity are
all connected to one another. I hope that you have learned more about SLC. I hope that
through this discussion, you will be able to love SLC more. Yes, sometimes, SLC is difficult to love,
but if we look deeper at her true essence, we would be able to see more her beauty and the
love she gives to all of us. Truth be told, SLC always wants the best for all of us. With that, we
should be truly grateful. To end this discussion, I just want to ask you one last question: Can you
honestly say that you are truly happy, proud, and grateful to be at SLC? Why or why not?

ASSESSMENT
Enrichment Activity: After knowing SLC’s Vision-Mission Statements, Core Values, and the
Louisian Identity, you are going to construct a tagline that would best represent what SLC is for
you. Write CREATIVELY the tagline on your CLE notebook. Afterwards, expound the meaning of
the tagline by giving reasons why it was constructed as such. This will be considered as you mini-
task. Further instructions will be given during the face-to-face class.

Be guided by the GRASPS and rubrics on page 10 of this module.
