BRIEF INTRODUCTION
Consumer Welfare Month
“Consumer Act of the Philippines.” Article 2. Declaration of Basic Policy. — It is
the policy of the State that aims to protect the interests of the consumer, promote his
general welfare, and establish standards of conduct for business and industry.

Its objectives are the following:


1. Protection of consumers against hazards to health and safety
2. Protection of consumers against deceptive, unfair, and unconscionable sales,
acts, and practices
3. Provision of information and education to facilitate sound choice and the proper
exercise of rights by the consumer
4. Provision of adequate rights and means of redress
5. Involvement of consumer representative in the formulation of social and
economic policies
Pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 1098 date September 26,
1997, the country will be celebrating the Consumer Welfare Month every October. This
emphasizes the importance of effective concumer protection that responds to the
challenges of the digital economy and the development of cross-border retail trade.
