TECHNOLOGY STANDARD 5 – Productivity Tools: The competent teacher will integrate

advanced features of technology-based productivity tools to support instruction, extend

communication outside the classroom, enhance classroom management, perform

administrative routines more effectively, and become more productive in daily tasks.

1. Write a paragraph explaining your knowledge and understanding of the standard—put the

standard into your own words.

This standard aims to get teachers to use technology in the classroom every day. It

implores them to use technology to make simple everyday tasks easier and quicker so more time

is spent on instruction and learning. The standard wants teachers to find new ways to get

information to their students especially in a technologically advanced society. Everyone is so

plugged in to technology, especially the internet today that it makes sense for teachers to gear

information, messages, etc. towards this movement.

2. Explain how the artifact you chose demonstrates your understanding and application of the

standard.

The artifact I related to this standard is from a website called Voice Thread. The website

allows you to create power points or presentations that can be viewed by anyone and allows

people to place voice, video, or written comments on any page or idea. Teachers can use this

tool to post lessons from the day, or have students create projects on them where they can get

direct and clear feedback. If something is hard to explain or complicated a voice or video can be

inserted where the author or reader can pose questions or explanations. It saves time during the

day so the teacher doesn’t have to repeat things or giving feedback to each group during the class

period.

the future to further meet the standard.

your teaching will be impacted by the assignment.

I have not used the artifact in practice, but I know that my teaching will be less stressful

using the voice thread. I can see using it for substitutes to play so the students are still getting

the lesson and hearing my voice. I could also see using this tool for students who are absent and

missed a class. They can direct themselves to the site, find the power point, learn the material

and get the feedback from me that will benefit them most. I think this will definitely have a

positive impact on classroom time management and our productivity in the class.

4. Conclude with a paragraph discussing how you are more prepared to Teach and Learn in a

Diverse Society as a result of satisfactorily meeting the standard.

The artifact for this standard really made me realize how many options I have to enhance

my teaching. With students in a diverse society, its good to have options of how you present

information and topics to students. The voice thread allows you to put up power points but

comment with video or voice, which could be changed to a new language. It could also allow

students to explain their thinking or spelling of words. I think it helps so many ways for all

students to be included which is what we’re really after.
