Comparing System
Why do moths have variation in color?

Variation in the color of moths was

affected when the first factories
were built. There was a lot of
smoke, and the pollution turned the
trees nearby almost black.

→ Light colored moths could be seen

more easily than black moths
against the black trees. The black
moths did not get eaten by birds
and survived better.
● Similar living things can have
similar traits, but also
different traits.
REVIEW PREVIOUS
● Traits are affected by the
LESSOn environment.
● Traits can be passed onto
offspring by parents.

To classify and determine an
animal’s group, t is important to
observe the animal and describe
its physical characteristics and
behaviors.
