1. Manually
____________________________________________
Deploy and Stow Translating Sleeves
CAUTION : TO PREVENT BINDING, ENSURE THAT THRUST REVERSER DOORS ARE LOWERED
_______
AND LATCHED BEFORE OPERATING TRANSLATING SLEEVES.
WARNING : DISCONNECT THE PNEUMATIC POWER SUPPLY BEFORE PERFORMING MAINTE-
_______
NANCE TASKS ON THE THRUST REVERSER ACTUATION SYSTEM. A POWER
SURGE COULD CAUSE TO INJURY TO PERSONNEL AND DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.

A. Equipment and Materials

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ITEM DESIGNATION
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(1) Circuit Breaker Safety Clips
(2) Access Platform
(3) Wedges (Primary Brake, Secondary Lock)
(4) Torque Wrench (0.37 in. Hex-drive Male)
Referenced Procedures
- 71-13-00, P. Block 301 Cowl Doors
- 78-31-15, P. Block 201 Master and Slave Actuator

B. Job Set-Up
(1)Open, safety and tag the appropriate circuit breakers and open fan
cowl doors (Ref. 71-13-00, P. Block 301).
(2)Install access platform.
(3)Ensure that ground air duct is not connected to ground operation air
transfer pneumatic valve.

C. Manually Deploy Translating Sleeves

CAUTION : DO NOT PULL THE PDU BRAKE HANDLE WHEN THE PDU IS DISCONNECTED
_______
FROM THE MASTER ACTUATORS (WHEN THE FLEXIBLE DRIVE SHAFTS HAVE
BEEN DETACHED). FAILURE TO OBSERVE THIS PRECAUTION COULD RESULT
IN THE PDU MISALIGNMENT.
R (1)Pull and retain primary brake release handle on PDU with PRIMARY LOCK
R WEDGE (Ref. Fig. 201, 204).
CAUTION : MAKE SURE THAT THE SYNCHRONOUS SHAFT LOCK ASSEMBLY IS IN
_______
THE UNLOCKED POSITION BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO DEPLOY THE
TRANSLATING SLEEVE. FAILURE TO DO SO WILL RESULT IN DAMAGE
TO THE THRUST REVERSER SYSTEM.
(2)Manually unlock synchronous shaft lock assembly (Ref. Fig. 205).
(3)Pull and retain secondary lock release handle on both master actuator
R with SECONDARY LOCK WEDGE (Ref. Fig. 202, 204).
(4)Remove two screws and plate from unused recess on master actuator and
save for reuse.
(5)Insert 0.37 in. hex-drive male wrench in master actuator recessed drive
and deploy translating sleeves as required.
NOTE : Nominal deployed means that the actuator has extended 20.84 in.
____
(529.336 mm) from stowed position. This is 7.5 revolutions toward
stow from the fully deployed position.
Fully deployed means that the actuator has extended against

the extend (aft) stops (Ref. Fig. 203).

D. Manually Stow Translating Sleeves

R (1)Pull and retain primary brake release handle on PDU with PRIMARY LOCK
R WEDGE (Ref. Fig. 201, 204).
CAUTION : MAKE SURE THAT THE SYNCHRONOUS SHAFT LOCK ASSEMBLY
_______
IS IN THE UNLOCKED POSITION BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO DEPLOY THE
TRANSLATING SLEEVE. FAILURE TO DO SO WILL RESULT IN DAMAGE TO
THE THRUST REVERSER SYSTEM.
(2)Manually unlock synchronous shaft lock assembly (Ref. Fig. 205).
(3)Pull and retain secondary lock release handle on both master actuator
R with SECONDARY LOCK WEDGE (Ref. Fig. 202, 204).
(4)Remove two screws and plate from unused recess in master actuator
and save for reuse.
(5)Insert 0.37 in. hex-drive male wrench in master actuator recessed drive
and drive translating sleeves to fully stowed position.
NOTE : When sleeves are fully stowed the secondary lock position indi-
____
cator will be at DELTA.
(± 1/2 width of DELTA mark) (Detail A) (Ref. Fig. 202)
NOTE : If the translating sleeve is not held in place to compensate
____
for the bulb seal compression, the actuator traveling tube will
not come to full stow and the REV unlock light could illuminate.
(6)Check secondary lock position. If position is correct, release secondary
lock handles in master actuators, if position is incorrect, resynchro-
nize secondary lock. (Ref. 78-31-15, P. Block 201).
(7)Remove hex-drive male wrench from recessed drive in master actuator and
install recess plate with bolts.
TORQUE bolts to between 20 and 25 lbf.in. (0.23 and 0.28 m.daN).

E. Close-Up
(1)Remove wedge to release primary brake release handle in PDU.
(2)Return the manual unlock lever of the synchronous shaft lock in normal
position.
(3)Make certain that working area is clean and clear of tools and
miscellaneous items of equipment.
(4)Remove access platform.
(5)Close fan cowl doors (Ref. 71-13-00, P. Block 301).
Remove safety clips and tags and close circuit breakers.
