For Alfil millers for both mills A & B and motor vehicles for the
month of April 2021

May 14TH, 2020

GENERAL MANAGER

ALFIL MILLERS LTD

Dear Sir:

The maintenance team is pleased to present the attached Monthly report. Included is a detailed
report of operation and maintenance of both Mill A, Mill B and motor vehicle for the month of
April. The maintenance team welcomes any comments or questions on this report.

Sincerely,

Maintenance team
Executive Summary
During last month (April), we experienced one major break down on elevator bucket head in
mill B which caused a standstill in mill productions for two days and this was rectified. Another
break down occurred on aspirator bearing and its rectification delayed due to delay in delivery.
Majorly, we carried out prevent maintenance in both mills. On motor vehicle side, we have
carried out both preventive and breakdown maintenance on several trucks majority of which
had brake systems faults, fuel injection system faults, clutch servos and air bags.
Preventive maintenance done at Mill A & B respectively
We carried out daily, weekly and monthly prevent maintenance on mill B during the last month
(April), as follows;

1. Daily maintenance included blowing of mill B, draining of condensed vapor from

compressor and daily inspection of mill equipments during production to identify and
rectify any fault before intensification.
2. Weekly maintenance done in April includes;
 Cleaning of magnets in both mills
 Cleaning of air filters on blowers
 Cleaning of inspection glasses for rollers since these are mainly affected by
moisture for Mill B
 Cleaning dampening machine to remove rotten grain
 Blowing of low pressure fans inside mill B to avoid excessive vibrations that may
damage electric motor bearings
 Cleaning compressors for both mills
3. We had a major break down in mill B were one elevator head pulley shaft and bearing
were damaged at the packaging section. This was a result of pulley bearing running dry for
a long time and there was no access for greasing. The break down caused stand still in
production for two days during repair.

Elevator
head pulley Both the
shaft and shaft and
bearing bearing
after were
breakdown damaged
We installed a permanent platform that we used to remove the pulley and carry out maintenance. This
same platform can now give us access to the elevator head for greasing regularly to avoid similar future
breakdowns

New and
accessible
platform

We interchanged the pulley shaft with another from a redundant elevator head which was not currently
in use

Two elevator
pulleys
among which
one was
interchanged
with the shaft
Two new pillow
block bearings were
used

Note

There is one elevator head and one screw conveyor in mill B whose accessibility is difficult and poses a
high safety risk to workers in case they try to grease their bearings. It is paramount that safety platforms
are installed around them for effective maintenance to prevent such break downs like before.
