STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

INTRODUCTION
In this highly technology driven world, where competition is intense and everyone in
the race to excel in their selected field. Here, I Jay Babubhai Patel, resident of
Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India wish to introduce myself briefly as an Ambitious, Active and
Promising person. I was born on 4th April 1996. I have applied to study Graduate
Diploma in Engineering Technology specialization in Power strand Level 7 at Waikato
Institute of Technology, Hamilton, New Zealand. I come from a Hindu family where the
value for education is foremost. My parents who have imbibed good values and have
always taught us the importance of education are in support of my decision to study
overseas. My Father is a government teacher, my mother is a homemaker and my elder
brother is pursuing his higher study in New Zealand. I have an elder married sister who
is happily settled with her husband.

In addition to this, I have also attended several seminars during my study period. I got
three months certified training from Harikrupa Automation on LabVIEW & SCADA.
Moreover, I have also grabbed the opportunity to attend 5 days workshop of DCS &
SCADA of well known company named YOKOGAWA. What is more, I have visited several
companies such as SICART Research Centre (Anand), IFFCO (Kalol), Thermal Power
Plant (Kakrapar). During my secondary education, I interestingly have taken part in
science fair and successfully prototyped my project on "Petrogas". In the last year of my
tertiary education, I have made project on "Microcontroller based Solar Tracking
System". Apart from this, I also like some extra recreational activities like music,
travelling, reading, sports and many more. I also didn't keep myself away from
performing stage functions like elocution competition and annual ceremany during my
schooling.
REASON FOR SELECTING NEW ZEALAND
It wasn’t really tough for me to choose a country for my further education. After
undergoing deep survey about the courses related to my previous study & I got to know
about numerous possible courses & opportunities available in New Zealand. I also seek
advice from my elder brother who is currently pursuing his higher study in highway
engineering in New Zealand, I finally came to a solution and it became an obvious
choice. New Zealand is a beautiful and unique country in the South Pacific, where
exciting things are happening in Education. As per my brothers experience, the
opportunities are more to make a good career with supporting services for
international students over there. Apparently, it is becoming the first choice for an
increasing number of international students seeking a unique learning environment,
quality education & to explore new ideas in pioneering programs that will put them at
the front in the world job markets of the future. Most importantly, it is one of the safest
countries to live in. Hence, I am positively looking forward to study and experience the
best I can in New Zealand.

REASON FOR SELECTION COURSE AND INSTITUTION

Institute: Waikato Institute of Technology

Course: Graduate Diploma in Power Engineering Technology

Instrumentation & Control engineering is the multi-disciplinary field of study which also
cover the subjects like mechanical, electrical and electronics. After studying this field of
engineering, I got good knowledge & skills related to the field. Simultaneously. I also
realised my area of interest like electrical and electronics subjects during my
undergraduate education where I have only given the glimpse of knowledge. There are
still much more left to learn. Therefore, I have decided to study Graduate Diploma in
Power Engineering & Technology Level 7 (1 year full time course) for the same which
will help me to enhance my skills and will be the best opportunity for me to get deep
knowledge of my desired field.

After undergoing few research and careful perusal of web pages, I have selected
Waikato Institute of Technology because it is a well-established and one of the reputed
institution in the New Zealand. I am quite convinced that my career will be in the best
hands of the institution. It is my firm belief that once I will complete my course I will
have the necessary skills which will help me to build up my career prospect and will
give me chance to upgrade my standard. I want to see myself as a remarkable
contributor in the field of Power Engineering where I can help people taking right
decisions for them for the betterment of the society also where I can prove myself as an
asset to the company I will work with.
FUTURE PLAN

After completing my course, I will have the appropriate skills and knowledge to either
enter the workforce, or to go on to postgraduate study in an engineering related area, or
to pursue further study and professional development in other areas. As a Power
Engineer, I will be able to deal with the generation, transmission, distribution and
utilization of electricity as well as the design of a range of related devices. Any Power
Engineer can be employed as a position of assistant engineer, boiler tender, turbine
operator, air-conditioning/refrigeration operator and power mechanic in industrial &
manufacturing plant, power generation station/plant, refineries, food production plants
and petrochemical plants. Personally, I am very much enthusiastic to see myself as an
assistant power engineer and will easily find a suitable way of putting my skills and
knowledge. I am really confident that the education which I will receive from New
Zealand will add a multiple skill to my Curricular Vitae. I perceive that learning in New
Zealand will provide me solid framework to analyse challenges and achieve proficiency,
professional responsibility, career development.

I declare that the particulars given above are true and correct in every detail. I
understand that incorrect or misleading statements may result in refusal of my
admission and/or student visa application.
