TOPIC: The computer software DURATION OF LESSON: 80mins AVERAGE AGE: 12yrs +

A. BEHAVIORAL OBJECTIVES (Cognitive, Affective and Psychomotor)


At the end of the lesson students should be able to:
i. Define the term “computer software”
ii. Identify the types of “Computer software”
iii. Give examples of each type of computer software

B. INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS:
The computer systems in the ICT lab, the Internet, examples of software on the computer system, students’
textbooks and printed notes

C. PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE:

The students have learnt about the components of computer from the previous lesson

D. INTRODUCTION:
Ask questions on previous topic and call on students to answer:
i. Mention the three computers components. Which one of them is the most important?

E. PRESENTATION (Step by step exposition of the material):


i. The teacher defines software to the students.
ii. Using the resources from the lab and Internet, he further explains the meaning of software on the basis of
programs.
iii. He mentions the two types of software, explains and gives examples of them.
iv. To differentiate between the two types of software, he makes a demonstration using the software resources in
the computer lab.

F. CONTEXTUALIZATION (of the materials of the classroom situation)


The students would be able to identify the roles software play in the operations of the computer system. This
would make them understand how the software controls the computer hardware.

G. STUDENTS’ ENGAGEMENT IN THE LESSON:


The students operate the computer systems in the lab to better understand the functions/roles of the computer
software. Through this, they will further understand the difference between the two types of software
H. REVIEW (By teachers and students of familiar material):

Both teacher and students reiterate the key points and terms from the student’s textbook and notes.

I. EVALUATION QUESTIONS (in three learning domains—cognitive,


affective, psychomotor):
The teacher will ask the students the following questions;
i. What component of the computer is virtual?
ii. Briefly explain what you understand about the computer software.
iii. Differentiate between the two types of computer software, giving examples of each.

J. CONCLUSION:

The teacher ends the lesson by reemphasizing the terms frequently mentioned during the lesson. He reiterates the
function/role of computer software in the overall operations of the computer system. He guides the students to
draw a chart to further clarify that.
