III. PROCEDURE
A. Preliminaries
Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity
A. Greetings: Good morning ma’am.”

“Good morning class”

Lou: “Let us put ourselves in the presence of
B. Opening prayer: the Lord, In the name of the Father and of the
Son and of the Holy Spirit.
“Lou, please led the prayer.”
Praise be thy name of our Lord Jesus Christ”.

Others: “Now and forever, Amen.”

All: “In the name of the Father and of the Son

“Please be seated” and of the Holy Spirit Amen.”

C. Checking of attendance:

“Beadle is there any absentees today?” Beadle (Harlene): “There are no absentees
today. All are present ma’am”.

B. Motivation

Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

“Good morning class! How are you day?” “We’re fine ma’am!”

“Okay, since you are fine, I guess you are

ready for our class this morning. I have some “Yes ma’am!”
pictures and as I flash it before you, I would
like you to give me the function of it. Okay?”
(Shows a picture of a door) “It lets people in and out of the room!”
(Shows a picture of a wall) “It protects what is inside the room!”
(Shows a picture of fridge) “It stores food.”
(Shows a picture of floor, tables and chairs) “It caters all the people around it ma’am!”
(Shows a picture of a waiter and waitress) “They serve as the organizer by serving food”
(Shows a picture of a take – out box) “Packages the food that the costumer wants to
take –out ma’am!”
(Shows a picture of a chef) “That’s the chef, it cooked food!”
(Shows a picture of line – up cooks) “That’s still a chef but they are many, they
convert the ingredients to a ready food to eat”.
“That’s a janitor, it cleans the establishment
(Shows a picture of a janitor) ma’am!”
“At a restaurant ma’am!”
“Okay, where can we find them?”
“The cell ma’am”.
“Same with the eukaryotes, we also have our
basic structural and functional unit. Can
someone tell me what is it?”

“That’s right! And today, we are going to

tackle about the plant and animal cell.”

C. Lesson Proper
Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity
“Before we start our lesson we are going to
have an activity. Are you ready class?” “Yes ma’am!”
“Count of from 1 to 3.” “Yes ma’am!”

(Gives the materials for the activity) “The title Objectives: After doing this activity, you
of our activity is comparing plant and animal should be able to
cell. Okay, can someone read the objectives for  Identify parts of the cell
your activity?”  Describe plant cell and animal cell
 Differentiate plant cells from animal
cells
 Construct a Venn diagram to show
parts that are common to both and parts
that are only found in either plant or
animal cells.

“Jan, please read the directions.” “Compare plant and animal cell below. Draw a
Venn Diagram to show the similarities and
differences of the two cells. Write your
answers in a short bond paper. Choose a
representative to report your groups’ work.”
“Are the directions clear? Is there any “No, ma’am!”
questions?”

“This activity is good for 5 minutes, it is (students answer their activity)

important that each member will cooperate.
Okay? You may start now.”

(after 5 minutes) (students report their activity)

“Okay. Let’s check if your answers were
correct. Just like a restaurant, a cell has also
many components or parts for them to work
efficiently. Now, let’s take a look at this
illustration. Diane: “They are composed of many parts
(Shows a picture of animal cell) ma’am and is circular shape.”
What have you observed in the illustration?”

How about this? They have the same components ma’am but
(Shows a picture of a plant cell) the cell has a rectangular shape.
Both cells have almost the same parts. Now
let’s take a look at these two cells.

There are three components of a cell, the (students points out the nucleus)
cytoplasm, the nucleus and the cell membrane.
Let’s look at first the nucleus. It is found in the
center of the cell. Can someone point out
where is the nucleus?
What is the function of the nucleus? It is the control center of the cell ma’am.

Almost all of the activities are directed by the

nucleus. Now let’s go to the cell membrane, it
is the outer layer of the animal cell, it encloses
other organelles. Can someone point out where
cell membrane is? (students points out the cell membrane)

It is also called semipermeable membrane. It allows specific molecules to pass through

Why is it called semipermeable? and blocking others.

What would happen if the cell membrane does Without plasma membrane, any substances can
not function properly? go in and out of the cell. The cell may be
affected by the exit of the needed substances or
the poisonous substances that can lead to death
of the cell.

Okay, now, let’s go to the cell wall. It is found

just outside of the cell membrane. Can
someone point out where is the cell wall? (student points out the cell wall)

Can we found this in both cells? No ma’am, we can only find this on the plant
cell.
What is the purpose of cell wall in plants? It gives them shape and protection to plant cell
because they are tough or rigid.
What is the function of the cytoplasm? It maintains the osmotic concentration of the
cells and prevents them from shrinking or
Now, mitochondria is one of the organelles that bursting.
is found in the cytoplasm, it is an oval shape
organelle and is surrounded by a double
membrane. Where is mitochondria in the cell? student points out the mitochondria)
What is the function of mitochondria?
Yes, it produces energy that is needed by the It is the powerhouse of the cell.
body.
How about the endoplasmic reticulum?
It carries proteins to different parts of the cell.
There are two types of endoplasmic reticulum, The smooth and rough endoplasmic reticulum.
what are they? The ribosomes make it rough.
What makes it rough?
Ribosomes are circular in shape and are either
What is a ribosome then? free or attached to the endoplasmic reticulum.
(student points out the ribosomes)

Can someone point out where is the ribosome

is?
Okay, This one here is the lysosome they break
down the waste products and detoxify the cell.
The Golgi apparatus are like stacks of sacs,
where is the Golgi apparatus in the illustration? (student point outs the Golgi apparatus)
What is the function of Golgi apparatus? They function as the packaging unit of the cell,
they sort and modify proteins.

The vacuoles on the other hand are organelles (student point out the vacuoles)
for storage. It can easily seen in plant cell
because they have large vacuoles. Can
someone point out the vacuoles?

How would vacuoles in plants serve as defense Vacuoles in some plants may contain poison or
against animals that eat them? toxic substances and these substances may
harm animals once eaten, this serves as their
protection.
Chloroplast is an elongated or disc-shaped (student points out the chloroplast)
organelle; can someone point out the
chloroplast?
Where can we find them? Chloroplast can be found only in plant cell.
What is the function of chloroplast? They are the site of photosynthesis in plants.

Okay, chloroplast contains chlorophyll, a green

pigment in plant which absorbs light energy
from the sun and is the site of photosynthesis
in plants.
Why are there several chloroplasts in the cell? It is site of photosynthesis and the more
chloroplast in them makes them more efficient
This one here is the centrosome, it organizes for making food.
the cell parts during cell division.

Again, the difference between the animal and

plant cell is that the shape of the plant cell is
fixed and rectangular while in animal cell it is
round and irregular. Also plants have
chloroplast, cell and large vacuoles while
animals don’t.

Okay, now let me show you a video called

“The cell song” which summarizes out topic
for today.

Any questions? Clarifications?

No ma’am!
