SEQUENCE OF OPERATION
ATS OPERATION OVERVIEW
The ATS contain one utility main breaker (normal) and one generator
breaker (emergency). A standard automatic transfer switch (ATS) has only
three major functions: Sensing normal source availability, sensing emergency
source availability, and transferring power to the most desirable source at the
appropriate time.
On sensing loss of the normal source, the ATS issues a signal to start an
on-site generator set. On sensing availability of the emergency source, the
transfer switch will open the normal breaker and then close the emergency
breaker, connecting power to the alternate source. On return of the normal
source, the emergency breaker open, the normal breaker close and generator
set start for cool down.
AUTOMATIC OPERATION
4. Protective relay (OV/UV) energize and signaling the generator set to cool
down.
5. Sensing relay give signal to genset for cool down
6. Time delay (TD1) for emergency breaker open. (5 sec.) default time
delay.
7. Time delay (TD2) for normal breaker close. (3 sec.) default time delay
8. Time delay (TD3) for generator set cool down. (2 mins.) default time
delay.
