The present document defines the precautions to be taken for proper preservation of equipment
during erection.
If needed, it shall be completed or amended by the relevant Erection Instruction (EI), taking
account of the special requirements set out by the Supplier.
It does not concern "prolonged" preservation which, where applicable, shall be covered by
special instructions provided by the Supplier of the equipment.
2 ROTATING MACHINES
As a general rule, topping up of grease and oil is done as soon as the equipment has been
erected.
Depending on the time interval between the end of erection and the beginning of equipment
commissioning, it should be checked whether oil and grease must be changed (in conformity
with the requirements specified in the relevant Erection Instruction).
Make the shaft of all rotating machines fitted with plain or ball or roller bearings rotate by one
turn and a quarter every two weeks.
3 ELECTRIC MOTORS
Check the insulation resistance of the various windings periodically (stator for asynchronous
motor, rotor if wound, armature and inductor of the direct current machines).
Should the insulation resistances go down below the minimum values specified in the relevant
supplier's instruction, check first that the insulation resistance decrease is not caused by the
insulations, inside terminal boxes. If not, dry the motor windings completely until normal
insulation resistance is reached. For this purpose, refer to the Manufacturer's notice.
4 ELECTRONIC COMPONENTS
To be installed only after putting the air conditioning system of the rooms receiving these
components into service, as far as possible.
Once these electronic components are installed, avoid stopping the air conditioning system as
far as possible.
5 HANDLING APPLIANCES
GGG/00/M/MCE---/EG/016 C 2
Check that the various parts requiring lubrication are always adequately oiled and greased and
keep them in conformity with the Manufacturer's instructions.
If this appliances are used by the erection contractor during erection works, he will be
responsible for proper operation and maintenance of the crane according to manufacturer's
instructions.
6 PIPING NETWORK
61 Piping
Unless otherwise instructed by ALSTOM Power, ensure proper draining after pressure testing.
62 Valves
. gate valves
. globe-valves with metallic check-valve
. piston valves.
Primer
Should damages to the primer be detected during an inspection, repairs or touch-ups shall be
performed in compliance with the general specification of painting (EG 017).
Should an inspection detect any major damage to the temporary protecting compound of a
piece of equipment in aggressive atmosphere the temporary protecting compound shall be
reapplied after correctly preparing the surface to be protected.
Periodically check that the various pieces of equipment are in good condition and particularly
with regard to :
GGG/00/M/MCE---/EG/016 C 3
- the oil levels,
- the physical appearance of oils and greases (deterioration),
and, in any case, keep them in conformity with the Manufacturer's instructions.
General comment
The equipments will be kept clean, free of oil strains, insulating materials and dirt of any kind.
All necessary steps will be taken to ensure the list possible mechanical protection during the
erection period.
