PART A—(5*2=10)
1. Write the difference between LMS algorithm and RLS algorithm.
2. What is the need for multi-rate signal processing?
3. Differentiate decimation and interpolation.
4. Name some applications of multi-rate sampling.
5. Define discrete wavelet transform.
6. What is the need for anti-imaging filter in multi-rate digital signal processing?
7. Give the two channel wavelet filter banks to decompose the input signal into
frequency bands.
8. Compare the adaptive noise cancellation and adaptive echo cancellation.
9. “Multistage implementation of multi-rate system will reduce the computational
complexity at each stage”. Justify.
10. Define poly-phase realization.
11. Define sampling rate conversion.
12. Write the advantages and disadvantages of recursive shift variant filters.
13. Write the equations involved in a simplified IIR LMS adaptive filter.

16. a. Draw the block diagram of an adaptive filter as a noise canceller and explain.
b. Draw the block diagram of an adaptive filter as a channel equalizer and
explain.

17. a. Derive the expression for minimizing the weighted least error using Recursive
Least Squares algorithm.

phase decomposition.

ii. With a neat diagram, explain about the sub band coding of speech signals.

18. a. Write short notes on wavelet transformation. Also explain filter bank
implementation of wavelet expansion of signals.

b. With necessary equations and diagrams, discuss about the interpolation and
decimation in multi-rate signal processing.
c. Explain the concept of multirate signal processing with spectral interpretation
of decimation of a signal from 6 kHz to 2 kHz and spectral interpretation of
interpolation of signal from 2 kHz to 6 kHz.
