Barrett Summer Scholars
is a summer enrichment program for
academically talented and motivated
students entering 8th, 9th, 10th and
11th grade in Fall 2022. Students
participate in a Critical Thinking or
Human Event course and an elective
of their choice, taught by university
professors or staff, to prepare them
for enrollment and success at ASU
and Barrett, the Honors College.
Barrett Summer Scholars will be
offered in both an in-person or
virtual setting.
Eligibility
Enrolled in 8th, 9th, 10th or 11th
grade during the 2022–2023
school year.
Cost and Fees
$800 overnight (in-person)
Or $250 online (virtual)

The César E. Chávez Leadership
Institute is a high-energy
leadership program at Arizona
State University for rising juniors
and seniors from Arizona. For
one-week, selected students
participate in workshops and
activities exploring higher education,
leadership development and
community engagement – all within
a collaborative peer environment.
Eligibility
Enrolled in 11th or 12th grade during
the 2022–2023 school year.

RISE Summer Leadership
Institute is a five-day leadership
and college readiness program
for 8th-12th grade students that
celebrates and continues the legacy
of Black and African American Sun
Devils at Arizona State University.
The institute gives students the
tools to continue as leaders in
their schools and communities.
Participants will learn about public
service from the community and
alumni, but will receive resources
that will help them navigate the
college-going process.

12th grade during the 2022–2023

Summer Experience at Downtown is an
interactive program that celebrates the vibrant
ASU Downtown campus. Students in 9th-
12th grade will explore college-readiness
programming and have an opportunity to engage
with successful ASU alumni and SPARKS
members (current ASU students) and take part
in seminars, presentations, and career and major
explorations. Learning communities taught by
ASU faculty will include nursing, journalism, and
pre-law studies.

Summer Experience at West is for students

Participants will enjoy interactive activities that

college-major explorations and panel discussions
led by current ASU SPARKS students.
Participants will also attend learning communities
taught by ASU faculty in Neuroscience,
Psychology and Law/Forensics, STEM/Physics,
Cognition and Leadership, Nutrition and Health.

Summer Experience at Poly will provide
highly motivated 9th-12th grade students the
chance to explore Arizona State University
Poly Campus through different communities in
a four-day interactive model. Participants will
enjoy and learn from multiple activities that may
include presentations, seminars, college-major
explorations and panel discussions led by current
ASU SPARKS students. Finally, students will
have the chance to attend learning communities
in Education, Communications, Sustainability,
and Psychology taught by ASU professors and
graduate students.
