People in the community can be defined as any person who helps with our health, education, and
overall well-being. People in the community include doctors, nurses, teachers, policemen and other
community helpers seen in the community.

9
Protecting oneself is basic before we can protect others. Children are vulnerable to danger. They need
to be protected by different people as they grow. Everyone has the responsibility to protect others.
Protecting oneself can be done in several ways:
a. avoids talking to strangers
b. never opens the door for strangers
c. always brings ID for security; this is also helpful in case you get lost
d. uses the footbridge or ask help from the traffic enforcer when crossing the street
e. avoids harmful or dangerous material, for example knife.
It is important that you always follow the reminders of your parents, teachers, and other elders in the
family. You should also know who can help you when you have a problem at home or at any place in the
community.

Listen to the story of Bea in the story entitled “People in the Community”.

People in the Community

Bea and her mother went to the market. They rode on a tricycle. Her mother saw the bloody hand of
the driver and immediately put first aid on it. The driver smiled at them and said, ``Thank you”. On their
way, Bea saw a street sweeper collapse on the street. Then, she told her mother to help her. There were
also traffic enforcers assisting an old man crossing the street. An ambulance passed by. She saw a nurse
assisting the man inside it. Bea smiled and said, “It’s a lovely and safe day if everyone is helping each other”.

Processing Questions:
1. What did Bea see along the road going to the market?
2. What did they do to help other people?
3. Do you think helping others is a good attitude?
4. What will you do to make yourself safe all the time?
