FRIENDSHIP STARS QUILT GUILD

MAY 12, 2011 – MINUTES

Meeting was called to order by Nance Larsen, VP #1. A welcome was given and an
introduction of visitors was given.

OLD BUSINESS:
1. Nance lead conversation on the “Roberts Rules of Order”- purpose being the
need to conduct orderly and courteous meetings. Sandi Vincent offered some
more in-depth explanation. All agreed that these rules would be followed to
the best of the guild’s capabilities.
2. Treasurer’s Report was read to members by Jean Swanson. Motion for
acceptance was made by Becky Lippincott, second by Tina Hardt and
approved by all members.
3. Karen Nolte presented copies to members of the “Policies & Procedures” for
each to review. Members will present any questions, possible changes, and/or
approval at the June 2011 meeting.
4. Karen Nolte asked for volunteers to help create “By-Laws” for the guild.
Sandi Vincent, Sandy Henning and Peggy Summers will form the committee
along with board member Karen Nolte. By-Law suggestions will need to be
approved by full membership before being valid.

NEW BUSINESS:
1. Re-organization within the guild. Nance presented the usual; president
leaves the vice president would move up into the position of president; vice
president #2 would become vice president. Also suggested the need to
separate the jobs of treasurer and secretary. Membership agreed on all issues.
Since the issue of change within the leaders would be made for the remainder
of 2011 it was suggested that because of the short time the leaders (board
members) would hold the office until September 2012. This was agreed upon
by membership. President position was open to the floor and a nomination
was made by Jean Swanson, second by Peggy Summers to have Nance Larsen
move into the position of President. Members approved in full voice vote.
The position of Secretary was open to the floor. Mary Voegeli nominated
Char Christensen. Char noted that she did not have a computer and does not
feel qualified and declined the position. A second name of Brenda Mathews
was presented by Becky Lippincott, second by Sue Joos. Brenda said she
feels qualified and would accept the position if so approved by members.
Members all approved by voice vote.
2. Committee Reports:
a) Block of the month has been changed to the leadership of Brenda
Mathews. She will continue with the “Friendship Star” style blocks for
the 2011. Thanks to Brenda for taking on this challenge.
b) Program Chairman, Becky Lippincott gave us advance notice of the June
Meeting being what the Long-Arm Quilters need and/or expect when you
give them your quilts. Also how to square up blocks and a finished quilt
before giving them to the long-arm quilter. July will be PICNIC TIME.
Tonight’s meeting we will be learning techniques of cutting and the
different uses of different style rulers. Also demonstrations for a
bookmark and the “Baby Go” unit/dies.
c) Community Projects program needs a new leader. President Larsen asked
to have members think about volunteering for this leadership. Hopefully
someone will come forward by next meeting. Also the Hospice quilt has
been handed over to the proper persons and now up for chance. Tickets
are $5.00 each or 5 changes for $20.00. We have a few tickets available
for sale. See Nance Larsen during the break or after the meeting to
purchase your tickets. All “chance money” will be benefiting the Hospice
