As a teacher of over 150 students per school year, it is a privilege to come across
a student as remarkable as Millie Rice. Millie’s strong work ethic and incredible
drive for success make her an excellent candidate for the SCSPA Journalist of the
Year Award.

I had the pleasure of teaching Millie in English 1-Honors during the 2018-19
school year. Within this course, it was clear that Millie not only had a desire to
perform well as a student, but specifically as an English student. She excelled in

away with her dedication to go above and beyond on her work.

Millie is one of those rare students who refuses to give up until she understands

me how she could improve, because she truly had a desire to succeed to the best

Principal of her ability. Millie is a superior English student, and it was an honor to have her
in class. I am confident that the skills and confidence she gained within this
course, as well as her other English courses at Wando High School, will help her
significantly in college courses and beyond.

I was so excited when I heard that Millie was interested in joining the Wando
Legend yearbook program her sophomore year, because I knew she would be the
perfect addition to their staff. In Millie’s time on the Legend staff, she has already
won a second place, a first place, and a Best Copy award in 2020, as well as three
second places, a Best Design, and a Best Overall award in 2021. This is quite
impressive for one student, which explains why she was selected as one of the
Editors in Chief on the Legend Staff this year. I am excited to hear what awards
she will earn with this current yearbook.

I have no doubt that Millie will continue to touch the lives of everyone she meets
in the same way that she has touched mine. Without reservation, I give Millie my
highest recommendation for the SCSPA Journalist of the Year Award.
