Job analysis is the descriptive procedure of all determining all the necessary information
about a particular role or profile. It carries information about the tasks involved in the
job, the knowledge and skillset required to perform the tasks and the responsibilities
and abilities needed to successfully perform those tasks.
In this assessment, we have chosen Tata Steel as a company to base our study of HR
department, policies and activities.
Tata Steel, formerly known as Tata Iron and Steel Company Limited (TISCO), is an
Indian multifunctional steel-making based in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand and also a
subsidiary of the Tata Group.

Product Engineering
Responsibilities:
● Work with other departments parallelly such as research, development, design,
manufacturing sales and marketing providing an engineered, production-ready
solutions.
● Examine and provide feedback for designs and competitor products as and when
needed.
● Validate and/or Modify product road maps created by the Research and
Development team.
● Ensure product development with innovative features
● Improve existing product functionality, cost and quality
● Post-product-development, in-field testing and evaluation with prospective
consumers.
● Develop 2D and 3D designs of the product
● Evolve product specific features and characteristics.
● Develop critical quality parameter for product performance measurement
● Preparing and maintaining the product engineering and production database
which includes details, specifications, analysis and evaluation of internal and
external product ideas.
IT Services
Responsibilities:
● Lead Digital & IT initiatives- Implementing new IT Systems, Modules &
Technologies.
● Collaborating with IT Business Partners to proactively resolve business issues,
implement transformational changes, functional upgrades etc.
● Application Design, Development, Testing and Implementation as per schedule.
Identifying opportunities for improvements in processes / IT systems.
● Implement Corrective & Preventive Actions through system modifications and
enhancements to eliminate the reoccurrence of incidents like Application Bug
fixing.
● Authorization Control & Helpdesk Management – Interaction with External
Quality Assurance and IT Project Teams for adoption of new IT projects eligible
for Maintenance Phase movement.
● Coaching & Mentoring- Periodic Training to Shift Support Staff to handle regular
support and IT issues resolution for smooth functioning of business applications
and conducting User Training to insure system usage as per laid down
processes.
● Identify opportunities for identification, selection & deployment of best IT
practices & technologies within the TSL departments & group companies.
● Resolve & assist for customer requirements, complaints, issues & training needs
and ensure Customer Engagement & Satisfaction for all IT requirements &
services.
● Ensure alignment with One IT strategy.
Maintenance Management
Purpose: To handle all the production activity along with safety measure.
Responsibilities:
● Ensuring adherence to all applicable Safety standards an procedures by
employees.
● Implementing all safety initiatives.
● Ensuring presence of Safety Supervisors in all shutdown jobs.
● Developing related short term and long term annual business and operation
goals.
● Review compliance to annual plans, cost and quality targets and Equipping the
new area including maintenance of existing planning & execution of maintenance
of inventory management.
● Planning & scheduling Technical sessions and analysis of operating parameters
and solving issues.
● Identifying and executing cost reduction ideas and projects.
● Reducing electrical power consumption by adopting right methods complying to
regulations.
