PROPOSED
Route Departure Warning (L.D.W)
PROJECT TITLE

CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION

On freeways and arterial roads, a lane departure warning system (LDWS) is a device that
alerts the driver when the vehicle starts to move out of its lane (unless a turn signal is on in
that direction). These programs are intended to reduce crashes by targeting the three major
causes of collisions, driver error, distractions, and drowsiness.

CHAPTER 2: PROBLEM STATEMENT

In 2020, accident statistics show Road accidents reported to the Royal Malaysia Police in 2020
were 548,598 cases and only 1.1 per cent involved deaths. Among them is an accident due to
a Drivers in lane departure crashes were traveling above the posted speed limit in 65% of
cases. Almost half (49%) of drivers did not apply the brakes during the pre-crash record.
lateral control systems have the potential to reduce accidents caused by inappropriate vehicle
lateral movement either within the lane (lane keeping system) or when changing lanes (lane
departure system).

CHAPTER 3: OBJECTIVES

 To reduce crashes account for a significant proportion of passenger car occupant

fatalities and serious injuries
 To design a lane departure warning using ultrasonic sensor and camera sensor
 To construct a prototype

CHAPTER 7: EXPECTED OUTCOME

This Route Departure Warning (L.D.W) systems have the potential to prevent crashes, the
intent of this paper is to project the safety benefits that could be achieved with this technology.
Projecting the safety benefits that could be attained through adoption of these technologies
could increase adoption rates and influence policy making and regulatory approaches to
improving motor vehicle safety.

In turn, these would save lives and reduce other adverse outcomes of lane departure related
motor vehicle crashes. I hope this project will run smoothly and be fully completed on the set
date final year project. The project will also be able to help many road users out there from
road accidents caused by road changes or drowsiness problems while driving.
