Grammar Focus
Past tense
We use the simple past to talk about situations that happened in the past and
finished.
The form or structure :

Subject+ Verb 2 + Complement


For example :

I traveled to France last year.

She painted her house yesterday.

I was very sick .

They were at school yesterday's noon.


Types of Past verbs:
There are two types of verbs:
1_ Regular verbs
Regular Verbs are verbs that don't change completely when they are used for
the past.
We only add Ed or ied to regular Verbs
For example:

2- Irregular verbs
Irregular Verbs are verbs that completely change when they are used in the past.
For example:
Made
Bought
Went
Here are some list of irregular verbs:

Used to:

We use used to when we talk about things that we did in the past many times and
we no longer do it in the present.

For example: She used to play soccer.

It means that she played soccer in the past many times but she doesn't play it these
days.

The form:

Subject+ used to+ pase form (verb 1)


Negative Sentences:
Subject+ didn't + use to+ Pase form
For example:

1-I used to collect comic books when I was a child

2-She didn't use to play playstation when she was youn.

New vocabulary:

1-Employer: A person, a company or organization that employes people.


Synonyms: Boss- manger
2- Neighbor: Someone who lives next to you or near you.

3- Immigrants: Someone who moves from their country to another country to
live there.
4- Amusement park : A large park with many special machines you can play
with.
5- Comic books : Funny and amusing books
6- Collect: To get things that are the same and put them together
7- Playground : an area for children to play especially at school or parks
8- Stickers : A small paper or picture that you can stick it anywhere you want
9- Teddy bear : A soft toy in the shape of a bear
10- Toy cars: cars toys for children to play with
11- Turtle : An animal that live in the water and moves slowly
12- Hobbies : An activity that you enjoy doing in your free time
13- Possession: Something that belongs to you
14- Politics : Activities in a country with government
15- Neat : Tidy and clean and arranged
16- Organized: Work in a well planned way
17- Messy : Dirty or untidy
18- Artist: Someone who can sing or draw or paint etc
19- Courage: Being brave; not afraid

23- Recognize : To know who someone is or what something is
24- Pregnant: If a woman is pregnant , she has a baby inside her body
25- Unfortunately : A fact that you wish was not true
26- Survive: To continue to live after an accident, war or illness
27- Braids : A Style of hair girls do
28- Extraordinary : Very unusual or surprising
29- Originality : When something is completely new and different
Today's idioms:

1-take your hat off to someone = admire someone: "I really take my hat off to people who
work full time and study at the same time!"

2-tied to his mother's apron strings = someone (normally a man) who does what his mother
tells him: "He didn't want to come out last weekend, because his mother disapproves of us. He's
really tied to her apron strings!"

3-keep something up your sleeve = keep something hidden for later: "We've been
negotiating my new pay and conditions, but I've kept the other job offer up my sleeve for the
time being.
