Q2. (a) A motorist is driving to the grocery store at 20.0 m/s. He is 110 m from an
intersection when the traffic light turns red. Assume that his reaction time is
0.70 s and that his car brakes with constant acceleration.

(i) Determine the distance of the motorist from the intersection when he
begins to apply the brakes. (3 marks)

(ii) Calculate the acceleration that will bring the car to rest exactly at the
intersection. (3 marks)

(iii) Identify the time needed for the car to stop. (2 marks)

(b) A grey kangaroo can bounce across a flat stretch of ground with each jump
carrying it 10.5 m horizontally from its take-off point. If the kangaroo leaves the
ground at a 20.0° angle, calculate its

(i) take-off speed, and (5 marks)

(ii) maximum height during the jump. (2 marks)
