For the First

Semester
S.Y. 2009-2010
Being the controlled school in the District, Kauswagan Elementary
school started implementing the STAR last September 7, 2009. In this
program, the principal directed all the teachers to work hand in hand on
this.
Teachers were divided into two groups The Primary Group chaired
by Mrs. Remedios Dusong and the Intermediate Group chaired by Mrs.
Leah A. Balofinos. Each group is composed of teachers from Grades I-
III and IV-VI.
The principal settled the time of remediation. Sessions will start
exactly 12:30-1:30 at the LRC and gave other responsibilities to the
reading specialists.
The chairmen made the following:
Gathered the list of severely poor in reading based on the
result of Phil-IRI which is identified by class advisers.
Made the schedule of teachers to do the remediation course.
Set the LRC well.
And have prepared logbook to list down the pupils who
attended the sessions and the remarks for every client.

Officer of the day serves as the tutor and the clienteles as the
tutees. Teachers use different strategies in setting their tutorial
lessons.

In summary of our tasks as the STAR implementer, we successfully

have done our tasks well and have observed a bit of development from
doing this. Hopefully we could go a long way to this for the betterment
of our children.

Year End Report
S.Y. 2009-2010

We started this program 1st week of September and ended it 1 st

week of March. By great effort of the Principal and teachers of

Kauswagan Elementary School on this plan, we successfully ended it with

flying colors; that, we have decrease the frustration level and increase

our Instructional and Independent Level and eliminated Non - reader

during the conduct of our Phil IRI just this February of 2010 .
With this STAR, it pushes us teachers to work hand in hand to

improve the reading ability of our children before School year ends.
Statistical Basis:
1st Reading Inventory

117 were lined up at the frustration level out of 312 pupils tested from

Grades I-VI.

Meaning 38% of our populations were under Frustration Level.

2nd reading Inventory

Out of 301 Pupils tested, the numbers of frustration were lowered down to 33

pupils.

Meaning, from 38% of the population were under Frustration on our Pre

Inventory it reduces to 11% of Frustration during our post inventory.

To sum up we gained 27% of pupils from frustration prop up to

Instructional & Independent Level.

With this Program Non – Reader were eradicated at the end of the

school year.

With the result of our Phil IRI,it shows that there were 128
pupils who are under Frustration Level out of 248 pupils tested.

Hence we started picking up these pupils who are severely poor

in reading and started the remediation the month of
September.

Compared last year we have increase in the number of

clienteles this year. So we have to double time and enhance
ourselves with new ways of attending to the Problem.

Strategies Used:

1. Word Attack Strategies

2. DLTA (Directed Listening thinking Skills)
3. Assisted reading Strategies which includes:
Read Aloud
Dear Time
Shared Reading
Paired Reading
4. Tutor-tutee

As of this time we are still battling with the problems for we

desire to reduce or eradicate the non readers and frustration
level in our system, and in this short time no further results
have been detected yet for development. Only that the
participation of our clientele are evident, based on our
attendance.
Please see record for reference.

STAR PICTORIALS
S.Y.2011-2012
2011
STAR in Kauswagan Elementary School has been a practice since 2009; we follow the same
pattern of identifying our clienteles, based on the recommendation of the class adviser through the
result of the Phil IRI. We have 20 clienteles from grade I –III and 16 from grades IV –VI with a total of
36 clientele in all.

Started the session Last week of September and ended first week of March. Teacher in charge
for the remediation have their outline on how and what activities they do on that day.

Teachers varied activities help children their abilities in love for reading. Teacher does not only
teach inside the reading resource center but also make use of their time outdoor activities. This is to
eliminate boredom and to change the learning environment of the pupils.

SMART –F Target of Teacher

 strategic : teacher assist children to achieve the goals

 measurable: teacher can tell when they have completed them
 achievable: they are likely to succeed in meeting them
 realistic: they fit the circumstances
 time-bound: you have a set time to meet
 flexible: you can adapt them if the circumstances change

Class instruction strategies in teaching our clienteles includes:

1.Lecture by teacher
2. Class discussion conducted by teacher
3. Recitation oral questions by teacher answered orally by students
4. Discussion groups conducted by selected student chairpersons
5.Textbook assignments!
6.Story telling
7.Tutorial: students assigned to other students for assistance, peer teaching
8.Word association activity
9. Put idea into picture
10. Reading aloud

Other clienteles have improved their reading skills gradually, and others have improved well
with the perseverance to learn by practicing reading during their vacant hours.

Within 4 months of remediation and follow up there is an improvement on the result of our
post Test in Phil IRI.

After the post test last week of January, we continued till first week of March. Out of 36
clienteles, 8 still needs further follow up.
