Topic: Pandemic and its effect to students, parents and educational institutions

Impact of the Virus in our Lives

Throughout all the experience that this pandemic gives to me as a youth, daughter and
student I learned a lot in adapting into the new normal that the virus brought to us. One of the biggest
change happened in our lives is the way we receive knowledge from schools and the current learning
system. I observed that the pandemic affected not just our way of living or routine in our daily life but it
also changed the way we see things or our mindset. Based on every conversation I had with my friends,
parents, and classmates it all comes to a realization that pandemic truly put a lot of difficulties at this
time of crisis.

When it comes to education, the hardest thing to face is the distance of the students and
teachers to each other. Having this online and modular distance learning is a real challenge to students
as it requires more focus and time from them. It goes the same way to our teachers since they had to do
their works both inside and outside their home. Even our parents are going through a lot of difficulties.
This made me realized that everyone is going through their own obstacle and all we need to do is to find
our patience and faith to keep us going.

It is highly visible that the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic is drastically changing the lives of
people, including the lives of young people. Schools and universities have closed, exams and events
postponed, the usual health information services are limited, socializing with friends and wider family is
highly discouraged and in some places even punishable. Living in these circumstances can be tough for
young people for their social, physical and mental wellbeing.

Closure of schools, institutions and other learning spaces have impacted more than 94% of the
world’s student population. This has brought far-reaching changes in all aspects of our lives. Social
distancing and restrictive movement policies have significantly disturbed traditional practices. Within a
short span of the COVID-19 pandemic, many researchers have shared their works on teaching and
learning in different ways. Due to the fear of losing 2020 academic year or even more in the coming
future, the need of the hour is to innovate and implement alternative educational system and
assessment strategies.

After all the things that we have been through we cannot let this crisis to hinder our dreams
and success that we have worked hard for. The best thing we could do is to listen, think and then follow.
As a citizen we must be responsible not just for our own sake but also for the greater cause. There might
be a lot of changes but our willingness to bring back the freedom we had is more significant tool for a
better future.
