Students have done very little wood theory. This is due to the possibility of another lockdown where
students would be taught all theory online.

Students have previously completed chapter 11 species of trees.

Students have some basic knowledge of wood theory from primary school.

2. LESSON RATIONALE

Brief outline of why this content is the basis of the lesson KEY*

To inform students what they will learn, learning intentions will be displayed at the start of
class. RL

Keywords will be displayed to develop literacy skills further and highlight important words
from the lesson. RL

To teach students about the growth and structure of wood, students will be placed into
pairs and given topics relevant to the chapter. Students must create a poster about the
given topic, which they will present to the class during the second half of the lesson. RL

Students will be given 1 minute to present their posters. Pairs will be allowed to select a
speaker or both speak. This is to avoid any discomfort on students who would feel RL
uncomfortable speaking in front of a class. Throughout the presentations, the teacher uses
the teach me method where he pretends that he has forgotten everything he knows about
the topics students are presenting.
