II. PROJECT RATIONALE

Action Research is a systematic process of investigation, analysis and interpretation. This

kind of sustained focus may not be easy for most teachers because they need a thorough
understanding of it for them to be able to write a full-blown action research paper. The lack of basic
and fundamental knowledge in action research writing deters teachers from conducting an action
research study.

This training to be conducted on Mixed Methods Action Research Design captures both the
quantitative and qualitative data. This is a new trend in conducting research today. It is the hope of
the research committee that through this type of research, pressing educational classroom problems
will be addressed appropriately. The Catarman III District Research Committee in collaboration with
the Northern Samar Division through Planning and Research Unit has conceptualized a training
workshop to capacitate the DepEd employees Catarman III District who are willing to learn and
conduct research.
It is further expected that this attempt will help promote culture of research among them.

III. PROJECT OBJECTIVES

Specifically this activity aims to:

a. Enhance knowledge and skills in the development and conduct of mixed methods action
research;
b. Craft workable mixed methods action research proposal;
c. Develop appreciation in the principles and tenets in writing action research and the
utilization of school-based action research results as potential inputs to intervention in
the classroom;
d. Ensure that all participants are familiar with the provisions of DepEd Order No. 43, s.
2015 & DepEd Order No. 4, s. 2016; and
e. Develop within the teachers the culture of research writing.

IV. COURSE CONTENT

1. School-Based Mixed Methods Action Research Approach

V. METHODOLOGY

For teachers to be fully equipped with skills, the district research committee collaborated
with the Northern Samar Division through Planning and Research Unit. The division research
supervisor provided keynote speakers for the training. The Division Research Supervisor Dr. Robert
T. Orias ensured that the invited key speakers are well-verse in their assigned topics. Moreover, it is
ensured as well that they experienced research writing so they can share their first-hand experience
to the participants. The seminar writeshop will begin with the registration of participants and
opening program. The first speaker, Mr Robert T. Orias, the Division Research Coordinator will
provide insights about the Concept Development- Title Crafting Titles and Research Questions. This
will immediately followed by the second speaker Mr -Don Redentor Evasco, he will educate the
participants about the Developing and validating the Intervention Design .Mr Pepito E. Saldo Jr. will
discuss the Review of Related Literature, Mr. Danhill L. Donoga will point out the Theoretical
Underpinning of Mixed Methods Design Purposive Sampling: Techniques and Characteristics
Establishing Trustworthiness of Qualitative Findings, Mr. Michael Froilan will discuss the Data
Gathering Methods: Quantitative and Qualitative Data Methods of Data Analysis: Qualitative and
Quantitative. He will introduce this format to the participants as this will be used by the teachers in
writing their research papers to help them to analyse their data and help them decide as to what
statistical tools may be appropriate to their research papers. On the other hand, Mr. Reynel Ignacio
will present his action research to inspire and motivate teachers to develop their culture of research
writing. Mr. Danhill L. Donoga will give his final talk on Discussion of Results and Reflection.

Every after discussion of the speakers a simple workshop and exhibits of outputs will follow.
The training will last for three days. The length of discussion of every topic may vary depending on
the topic being discussed by the resource speakers. They may discuss their topics through the use of
a PowerPoint presentation and may provide various activities (e.g. lectures, practicum, orientation,
coaching and writeshop) to the teacher-participants for effective sharing of knowledge and
information.
