8.4 Solutions of Quadratic Equations


b2 - 4ac in the quadratic formula is called the discriminant.

If b2 - 4ac = 0, the equation has exactly 1 solution.

If b2 - 4ac > 0, the equation has 2 real-number solutions.

If b2 - 4ac <0, the equation has 2 complex non-real


(imaginary) solutions that are conjugates of each other
