Directions/Instructions: Philanthropic responsibility is at the heart of a few companies. The
Philippines is seeing an increase in companies that do not focus on
profitability but also champion social causes. In this activity you will see an
example of an actual company that not only places importance in company
profitability runs its business in order to make a difference. Please refer the

Activity Case Study: Corporate Social Responsibility
VCB, Inc. is a shirt printing business with a heart. Its business model caters
to two types of customers. (1) business customers for whom they print
shirts or tote bag requirements for uniforms or giveaways; and (2) retail
customers for whom they conceptualize and print shirts with witty
statement and funky illustration.
But there is more to this than meets the eye. VCB, Inc.is not just an
ordinary printing business it takes into consideration its ethical and
philanthropic responsibilities, and integrates these in its business.
VCB, Inc. provides work for disadvantaged individuals, which include ex-
convicts, persons with disabilities, and female victims of domestic abuse.
The company gives them a healthy work environment that makes them
productive members of society once again. They are engaged in work such
as sewing, printing, cutting and drying of printed products. In retail stores,
deaf and mute employees communicate with customers using a white
board where they can write their message or point at what customers need
quality, color, or size. Currently the company employs 43 employees.
The employees receive salaries that are above the minimum wage set by
the government. They also have a health care package, and their children
receive food and cash allowance every day. They are given monetary
incentives when the company hits its targets. The employees are treated
like family, and they love the company for it.
This only shows that a company can earn profits while also taking cate of
the society. It would be good to see if all companies can integrate their
corporate social responsibility in their business model in order to create a
better place for everyone.
