Journal week 5
This week was a bit busy as we had a lot of couples come in for pregnancy test and I got
to sit in and shadow for quite a few father sessions. One of the other tasks I was able to do during
this week was to start reading and develop an overview of the doctor dad classes. I am really
excited for this program and Demetri has talked about letting me take over a session or two after
I delivered more of the flyers and brochures around Opelika and Auburn to advertise for
the 5k coming up and I also was able to attend a staff sabbatical. It was very informative and
great bonding with the team. I felt initially when I entered into the room that I was not supposed
to be there, but they reassured me that they wanted me to be. We went over an adoption story
from one of the couples who came to the clinic. The Clinic just got their license to be able to
have adoptions for families the couple whose story we heard was the first. It was very moving,
and it was extremely informative as we reviewed terms to avoid when talking to new parents and
those looking to adopt. We also discussed the trauma some of the children that go through this
We then watched a film on abortion and what happens as well as the people it effects.
The images were very graphic and the testimonies and history that I saw and heard gave a
perspective that was never taught at GCSU. It felt like the classes on human sexuality and
Women’s Health were very one sided and never really talked about what a abortion really does
and looks like and I definitely have changed where I stand. I was very pro choice but I don’t
believe that I can stand with that belief after the new information and research I have personally
looked at.
