About my Week

This week was good at my internship site. I felt a little overwhelmed on certain occasions

due to being in unfamiliar territory, but I think I handled it pretty well. In my new patient visits,

that I have been doing by myself, I had some different types of visits that I wasn’t really sure

about because it was something I had observed, but never done by myself. For instance, I had a

patient who presented with a blood clot and another patient who presented with lymphedema. So

far, I had only had visits for patients with vein insufficiency. I ran into problems when using our

technology software to chart these visits because they were so different from the others. During

the visit, I felt a little useless when the medical provider came in because there was a lot that I
couldn’t tell them or do for them since I wasn’t sure how to handle it. Thankfully, they were very

patient with me while I learned how to navigate around it and while I asked questions to make

sure what I was doing was right. Although it was a little stressful and overwhelming, I am glad I

handled it well and now I feel ready to handle other situations similar to those.

This week I began working on my project for the semester. My project duties consist of

reviewing the new guidelines and policies that align with the new IAC accreditation standards

and comparing them to the standards that we already practice at Vein Specialists of the South.

After reviewing all of this, my job is to make an improvement plan to ensure that we are doing

everything we need to get that accreditation. In addition to this, I will help make sure that all

Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners have completed their surgery logs and CME hours

that are needed for the new accreditation requirements. So far, I have finished reading through

the new policies and next week my plan is to finish reading through our current policies and then

begin the improvement plan.
