Subrack equipment
D 1 DC/DC converter in position 13;
D 1 PCM controller unit in position 12;
D the positions 1 to 11 can be equipped with channel and signalling units or auxiliary units.
Remarks :
Channel units (CSU's) with different signalling types can be combined in one subrack. Units in the positions 2
to 11 have access to bus 1, the unit in position 1 has access to bus 2. If the number of channels on the CSU's
is different and/or some CSU's have a programmable CTC and some have not, the position of the CSU's is
determined by some rules :
D for CSU's with a non-programmable CTC (CTC1 or CTC2) the position of the channel signals on the
internal buses is fixed : it is determined by the position of the CSU on the subrack. They should be
placed as indicated in the first part of the table on the next page :
- the CSU's with 5 channels are mounted, starting from the position with the lowest number, but
excluding position 1 (2, 3...). These units should never be placed in the positions 8 to 11.
- the CSU's with 3 channels are mounted, starting from the position with the highest number (11,
10...).
- the position of the channels on the internal bus 1 to the PCM controller is given in the second
part of the table on the next page. If CSU's with a different number of channels are mounted,
some time slots can be left unused or some time slots can be occupied by two different channel
types, depending upon the number of CSU's on the subrack. Remark that in the latter case one
of both channels has to be disabled, depending upon the local channel requirements (see strap
options on the CSU's).
D for CSU's with a programmable CTC (CTC3) the position of the channel signals on the internal buses
can be chosen freely and is determined by means of man-machine commands, refer to section 3 of
the manual : installation. They can be placed on any of the remaining places. The same applies for
units which are not provided with a CTC but with a control circuit offering the same possibilities.
D however for a CSU with programmable CTC and 15 channels, the channel selection on the internal
buses is limited to either the first or the last 15 channels of the bus. So, precautions have to be taken
that no other CSU's use either the first or the last 15 bus channels. For example the CSU's with
non-programmable CTC can be placed in the positions 2 to 6 (thus using the bus channels 1 to 15)
and the CSU with 15 channels in position 7 (thus using the bus channels 17 to 31).
When the channels on the CSU's occupy more than 30 time slots, one CSU should be placed in position 1 (so
these channels are connected to bus 2). In this way the system configuration can be adapted, if required, by
means of man-machine commands only and without the need to rearrange the subrack layout.
In case of channel drop and insert or digital channel distribution, up to 5 slave PCM controller units can be
mounted in the positions 2 to 11.
A second DC/DC converter can be mounted in one of the positions 1 to 11 (option).
Auxiliary units, if required, can be placed on any of the remaining places. Remark that the 1VF tone
generator occupies up to 5 time slots on the internal bus 1 or 2.

Note If the equipment is controlled by a CNCC, it has to be noted that a CNCC address can only be
assigned to position 12, refer also to strap fields and, for detailed information, to section 3 of the
manual (Installation). So, no slave PCM controller unit or APS unit should be mounted on the
subrack in case of CNCC control.
