IV. PROCEDURES

Preliminary Activities Prayer:

Everybody let us stand for the prayer.

May I request _______________

to lead us the prayer.

Greetings:
Good morning everyone.

You may now be seated.

Checking of Attendance:
Who are absent in your class today?

Reminders:

Even if we are now under alert level 1 always remember to follow the health
protocols issued by the IATF like always wear your face mask, maintain physical
distancing, and sanitize your hands after holding materials specially in some of our
activities later.

A. Reviewing the
previous lesson “MY TRUE COLORS”
(or) presenting the
new lesson (ELICIT) The teacher will ask the students on what is their favorite color and why?

Instruct the students to close their eyes.

Philosophy of Education:
Existentialism Ask them if they can still see colors when their eyes are closed.

Teaching Strategy: What do you think is the reason why we can see different colors?
Lesson Objective
Transparency Process the answer of the students and make them realize that their lesson for
the day has something to do with the colors of light.

Present to the class the objectives of the lesson.

a. Infer that white light is made up of different colors of light.
b. Demonstrate the presence of the color components of visible light using
prism and other light reflecting materials.
c. Share to the class the importance of light.

B. Establishing the
purpose of the lesson “COLOR IT!”
(ENGAGE) The teacher will ask the students a question:
“In what phenomenon we can see different colors?”
“Have you seen a rainbow?”

T: Let me see how well you can remember what a rainbow looks like.

Give the student a copy of the illustration below and tell the students to color
the rainbow based on how well they remember what a rainbow looks like.

Ask for volunteers to present their output.

This activity will help the teacher to assess the prior knowledge of the students
regarding the color components of the visible light and their arrangement.

Proceed to the next activity to give the students an idea on the component colors of
a rainbow.

T: This time let us proceed to our next activity for us to find out what are really the
different colors of a rainbow.

C. Presenting
examples / Instances of “Time to Listen”
the new lesson
Before starting the story telling, each of the student will choose one paper crown they
prefer.
Ask the learners if they are familiar with the story character whose name is Roy G. Biv.
Together with the class, read the story entitled “The Hue of Roy G. Biv”.
Teaching Strategy:
RECIPROCAL
TEACHING and “The Hue of Roy G. Biv”
VISUALIZATION (Based on an Indian Legend by Anne Hope – 1978)
N1: “Once upon a time in the Rainbow Village the colors of the world started to quarrel, all
claimed that they were the best, the most important, the most useful, and the favorite.

N1: Green said,

GREEN: “Clearly, I am the most important. I am the sign of life and of hope. I was chosen for
grass, leaves, trees–without me, all animals would die. Look out over the countryside and
you will see that I am in the majority.”

N1: Blue interrupted:

BLUE: “You only think about the Earth but consider the sky and sea. It is the water that is the
basis of life and drawn up by the clouds from the deep sea. The sky gives space and peace
and serenity. Without my peace, you would all be nothing.”

N2: Yellow chuckled.

YELLOW: “You are all so serious. I bring laughter, gaiety, and warmth to the world. The sun
is yellow, the moon is yellow, the stars are yellow. Every time you look at a sunflower, the
whole world starts to smile. Without me, there would be no fun.”

N2: Orange started next to blow her trumpet.

ORANGE: “I am the color of health and strength. I may be uncommon, but I am precious for I
serve the needs of human life. I carry the most important vitamins. Think of carrots,
pumpkins, oranges, and mangoes. Don’t hang around all the time, but when I fill the sky at
sunrise or sunset, my beauty is so striking that no one gives another thought to any of you.”

N2: Red could stand it no longer. He shouted out:

RED: “I am the ruler of all of you. I am blood! Life’s blood. I am the color of danger and of
bravery. I am willing to fight for a cause. I bring fire to the blood! I am the color of passion
and of love, the red rose, and the poinsettia. Without me, the earth would be as empty as the
moon!”

N2: Violet rose to his full height. He was very tall and spoke with great pomp:

VIOLET: “I am the color of royalty and power. Kings, chiefs, and bishops have always
chosen me for I am a sign of authority and wisdom. People do not question me. They obey.”

N3: Finally, Indigo spoke much more quietly than all the others but with just as much
determination:

INDIGO: “think of me. I am the color of silence. You hardly notice me, but without me, you all
become superficial. I represent thought and reflection, twilight, and deep water. You need
me for balance and contrast, for prayer and inner peace.”

N3: And so, all the colors went on boasting and quarreling, each convinced of their own
superiority. Soon, their quarreling became louder and louder. Suddenly there was a startling
flash of bright lightening! Thunder rolled and boomed! Rain started to pour down relentlessly.
The colors crouched down in fear drawing close to one another for comfort.

N3: During the clamor, Rain began to speak:

RAIN: “You foolish colors, fighting amongst yourselves, each trying to dominate the rest.
Don’t you know each of you made for a special purpose, unique and different? Join hands
with one another and come to me.”

N4: Doing as they were told, the colors united and joined hands. The rain continued:

RAIN: “From now on, when it rains, each of you will stretch across the sky in a great bow of
colors as a reminder that you can all live in peace, and you will be called in the name Roy G.
Biv. A rainbow that is a sign of hope for tomorrow.”

N4: And so, whenever a good rain washes the world and a rainbow appears in the sky, let us
remember to appreciate one another”.

-END-

Ask the following questions:

Did you enjoy the story?

Where is the setting of the story?

Who are the characters of the story?

What is the problem or conflict in the story?

What is the solution on the problem in the story?

Who is Roy G. Biv?

What is the moral lesson of the story?

Based on the story, what are the different colors present in a rainbow?’

Do you have an idea how a rainbow or the visible light spectrum is formed?

Why do we see spectacular events in the sky like red sunset, blue sky, and rainbows?

To give us knowledge on how rainbow is formed, let us watch a video clip.

D. Discussing new “Watch Out!”

concepts and practicing
the new skills # 1 Present a video clip, let the student discover and comprehend the process of
(EXPLORE) dispersion and the color components of the visible light.

Philosophy of Education: The students will answer the guide questions after watching the video clip.
CONSTRUCTIVISM
1. What is a white light?
2. What is a prism?
Teaching Strategy:
3. How is the process of dispersion?
INQUIRY-GUIDED 4. What is a visible spectrum?
INSTRUCTION and CLASS 5. How a rainbow is formed?
DISCUSSION 6. What is the hierarchical order of the color components of the visible light?

Tell the students to jot down notes while watching the video.

After watching the video clip, a power point presentation will be used to
discuss concepts specially the answers in the guide questions.

E. Discussing new
concepts and practicing “We Work as One”
the new skills # 2
The class will be divided into three groups.

EXPERIENTIAL group activity. Also remind them regularly on the safety precautions in
LEARNING and performing the activity.
COOPERATIVE
LEARNING Each group should take a video while performing the activity. A presenter
should also be assigned in each group to present their findings in the class
after performing the activity.

During the presentation, you will be given score using a rubric. (see attached
rubric)

F. Developing mastery
(EXPLAIN) “LABEL and EXPLAIN”

For you to remember the colors of the visible light and its hierarchical order,
you will complete the image by labeling the dispersed colors of the visible light on
the blank provided.

Ask a volunteer to give an explanation about the image.

G. Finding application of
concepts and skills in What role does light play in our lives?
