Production Diary:

22/03/2022:
Today we were put in our groups for the
short film! I was put with Maeve and Jess,
this is good because we work well
together. As Well as that we created a
mindmap with ideas and also created a
document together about working in a
group.

25/03/2022:
Today we listed all our ideas for what short film
we could make.
After that we made our treatment document, in
this document we put down what the name of the
short film was going to be, the length, age rating
and also wrote down what the actually plot is
going to be

28/03/2022
Today we finished off the treatment
document and then also started to create
the shot list that we will use when creating
our short film. We split it three ways so that
the work would get finished quicker. This
showed again that we can work in a group.

28/03/2022
Today we continued working on the shot list
and finished it. We are waiting for it to get
checked.
01/04/2022
Today we started to create the storyboard,
we are writing the information, the shots, the
duration of the shots and everything else to
do with the shots.

When this is done we will print them off and

then draw what the shots will look like.

19/04/2022
Today it was just me and Jess. We finished
the Storyboard writing parts and started to do
the drawing. This will be continued tomorrow

20/04/2022
Today we continued to do the drawing for the
storyboard. Unfortunately we aren’t artists so
it isn’t the best but these drawings are going
to show what the actual shot will look like in
the film.

22/04/2022
Today we continued on the storyboard. We
ended up having to go back and change
some of the shots to make sure that
everything makes sense. This will be
continued next week.
22/04/2022
Today we finished the storyboard. This has all
been put together into folders.

Now we can move onto more of the

paperwork so we can start filming.

(we didn’t take a picture today so i drew one)

03/05/2022
Today we split the work, one person added
more shots to the storyboard, one finalised
the risk assessments and one of us did the
location recces. Aswell as that we made
the Model release forms and got people to
sign them.

04/05/2022
Today we scanned the storyboard into my
phone, after that we added all the scans
into a google slides presentation. This was
our final step before we can start filming.
09/05/2022
Today we started filming our short
film. We started to film the first
part of the short film, this only
needed Me, Maeve & Jess.

10/05/2022
Today Jess wasn’t in which meant
that we couldn’t film much, We
refilmed one of our shots of a sign
and then for the rest of the day we
helped other groups (our
competitors)

11/05/2022
Today we restarted filming the first
part of the short film, now we
have a little more knowledge
about how to use the camera.
After that we started to film the
middle part of the film

12/05/2022
Today we filmed the pre-ending of
the film, this was filmed in public
so we had some issues with
people walking past the camera
but in the end it made a great
result.

13/05/2022
Today we finished filming our
short film. This part was the
hardest part because we had to
walk about 20 minutes to get to
the filming location. Then we
finished the Logging list and the
started to do the edit decision list.
16/05/2022
Today I completed the edit decision list which meant that I was now ready to
edit..

17/05/2022
Today I started to edit my short
film. I ended up restarting the
project because I didn't like how it
looked.

20/05/2022
Today I continued editing the short
film. Throughout today I added the
clips that are needed in the short
film and started to cut them down,
this made it easier for when I want
to start adding effects and music
later.

23/05/2022
Today I finished cutting my short
film. I had to use the razor tool to
cut my clips to the size I wanted
them to be. I also started adding
the music and sound effects to the
end of the short film. After doing
this the final edit was getting a lot
clearer in my head and I knew
what I was now aiming for.
24/05/2022

Today I finished editing the

short film and exported it.
This was the final version of
the short film that I am going
to submit.
25/05/2022
Today I made a Revised
SWOT analysis, I added new
parts to it which shows the
parts that I have improved on
after creating my short film.

27/05/2022
Today I made a Personal
Development Plan. This
included this about what Jobs i
could go into and what job i
think i would fit best for in the
film industry

Evaluation:

At this point, I think I can say that the film production and editing was very
successful. In my opinion, the short film turned out to be better than I expected
it to be.

The reason why I think all of this is because of the simple theme of the short
film and also the quick editing at the end all made the film feel real.

Throughout the editing process of the short film I have used many different
ways of editing. I have used spotlight effects to make areas seem darker and
lighter, I have used the cut tool quite a bit and effectively to move the action or
the camera angle. I’ve used the cross fade effect quite to show the passage of
time between different parts of the short film and also added music and sound
effects to finally finish off the film.
There were a few problems with the filming. I feel like we were missing a few
shots that could have been useful to the short film but we sorted this out by
taking the extra shots, some of these additional shots were not used in the
short film but some of them were. While we were filming, I feel like we didn’t
redo the same shot that many times which in the end led to me using one of
the shots that was not as good as I wanted but better than the others.

There were also a lot more Positives than negatives when filming the short
film. One of the many positives was the filming locations that we chose. In my
opinion these filming locations were perfect for the film, an example of this is
when we filmed in the forest, this made the final scene look more mysterious
and I think it just pulled the ending of the film together. Another one of the
many positives when filming my short film was the way we continued action
when the camera changed, an example of this is when The Victim and The
Friend was walking down the path, the camera changed to show them walking
past and then also showed them walking ahead in the next shot, I think this
was a positive because it made the short film look a lot smoother.

There were a few negatives with the editing process. The biggest negative I
found is that I struggled with timing. The film was looking like it would be about
five minutes because of how long the shots were. This does link into a positive
though because in the end I made parts faster so the film wasn’t as long. One
of the main negatives of the editing process was that I struggled to make sure
that the shots don’t just look like a cut and the action isn’t skipped, this was
hard since I had a lot of shots that I swapped the camera angle over for the
action can continue, I had to make sure that it isn’t going to show an event
that has already happened or it wouldn’t skip ahead further than it was in the
previous shot.

There were quite a few positives when I was in the editing process. One of
these positives was that I already had an existing knowledge of editing so I
knew how to do what I needed to do. This made the editing process easier all
together. Another positive about the editing process was that I could put
different shots next to each other to create a match on action, This made sure
that the short film kept running without any stops.
