A SEMI-DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN SCIENCE FOR GRADE- 5

LEARNING COMPETENCIES: Investigate extent of soil erosion in the

community and its effects on living things and the environment-(S5FE-IVb-2)

I. OBEJECTIVES:
Within the 60 mins. discussion the students are expected to:
a. Identify the different agent of soil erosion,
b. Tell how the agent of soil erosion affect to our environment,
c. Appreciate the importance of soil.
II. SUBJECT MATTER:
Topic: Agents of Soil Erosion
Reference: Science Beyond Boarders V p. 158, Cyber Science V p. 305
Materials: Laptop, Projector, Pictures, Strip, Charts, Paper and Pen.
Values: Reforestation/Importance of planting trees.
III. PROCEDURE:
A. PRELIMINATY ACTIVITIES:
 Prayer
 Greetings
 Checking of the Attendance
 Reviewing the previous lesson

 The teacher will post a chart on the board and provide strips of words
that will serve as a clue for students to identify whether it is the benefits
or the harmful effects of the heat and light . The learners will analyze
and identify where should they put the sentences.

BENEFITS OF HEAT and LIGHT HARMFUL EFFECT OF HEAT and LIGHT

Strips:

Look directly at sun can cause temporarily blind Sun burn

Headache and nosebleed Source of vitamin D

Animals and human were able to see Process of photosynthesis

B. MOTIVATION

 The teacher will give students a jumbled letter of word and a picture that will serve
as a clue. The learners will analyze and guess the scarmbled words.

B. PRESENTATION
1. ACTIVITY
 Let us read Science Beyond Boarders V p.158
 The learners will determine what are the different agents of soil erosion.
MATERIALS: Pictures and Strip

 The students will be group into four groups.

 After they are grouped into 4 every one of them will pick one picture then
put the picture on the strips provided where the picture belongs and explain
why.
 The teacher will give the direction to students on how to do the
activity and they will answer the guide questions.
 The teacher will assist the students in doing the activity.
2. ANALYSIS
Guide Questions:
1. When we say "soil" what comes into your mind?
2. Based on the selection we read, what are the different agents of soil
erosion?
3. How does water, wind, animals, and humans becomes an agent of soil
erosion?
4. Based on the activity that you perform, what do you think will be our
topic for today?

3. ABSTRACTION
 The teacher will discuss the different agents of soil erosion using
Science Notebooks.
A Soil erosion is the displacement of the upper layer of soil, it is one
of the form of the soil degradation. The following are the different agents of soil erosion;

Water -As water flows, it transforts rock and soil particles from one
place to another. The speed of flowing water affects the rate of erosion.

Wind - As wind blows, it carries light particles of rock and soil,

transporting and depositing them in another place as strong winds carry the particles of soil erosion
in a distance place.

Animals - Animals also contribute to the transportation of

sediments. When burrowing animals dig the ground, some rocks and soil particles stick to their
bodies. As they move from place to place, they carry such particles too.

Humans - Humans have a major contribution to the rate of soil

erosion is a natural phenomenon, humans have a major contrubution to the rate of soil erosion in
the environment.

4. APPLICATION
 The learners will be group into three groups.
 As a group they will think and list down real-life activities that shows
the importance of soil. List as all they can in 5 mins.
 The teacher will call each group to share their work in class.
C. GENERALIZATION

Light paticles Water

Animals Humans

Wind Soil and rock

The teacher will discuss the different agents of soil erosion and its importance to
the imvironment.

IV. EVALUATION
Fill in the blank. Choose the correct answer from the box.

1. Faster movement of water can cause many sediments to be carried away by the
water.
2. When the wind blows, the particles of sand move along the wind.
3. Light particles of the soil can be easily blown away by the wind.
4. When burrowing animals dig the ground, some rick and soil particles stick to their
bodies.
5. Humans have a major contribution to the rate of soil erosion.

V. ASSIGNMENT
Direction: Draw or cut some pictures from old magazine o from internet showung
agents of soil erosion.
