G.2 Characteristics loads and forces for rail tracks


G.2.1 The vertical and horizontal Characteristic wheel loads are according to Table # 9
G.2.2 Dynamic actions of the suspension rig is coinsidered as quasi-static

G.3 Basis of Structural Analysis


The calculation model and basic assumptions for determining internal forces and
G.3.1 moments represent the expected response uner the
load cases considered

Linear Global analysis is used and the effect of displacements and deformations are neglected
G.3.3 The limit state method (partial safety method) is used
G.3.4 The track is modelled as continuous span over two spans
The following internal forces and moments due to BMU wheel loads are taken into account in the dersign

G.3.7 The elastic resistance of the cross sections are taken as the design resistance

G.4 Materials
The nominal values of the yield strength fy and the ultimate strength fu for structural steel are obtained by
G.4.1 using values given in EN 1993 (all parts) (Eurocode 3)

G.5 Ultimate Limit States
G.5.1 General
The design of the rail track is checked for resistance of cross sections and local effects. Additionally,
resistance of members are checked for plain rolled I or H sectins
Required Design Checks
1.       The yield criterion at any critical point of the cross section may not be exceeded (G.5.3)
2.       The resistance of the member against lateral torsional buckling has to be satisfied (G.5.4.1)
3.       The end supports shall be structurally equivalent to fork bearings (G.5.4.2)
4.       The web of I or |H sections shall resist local effects due to wheel loads (G.5.4.3)
5.       The web of I or H sections at end and intermediate supports shall resist the effect of support reactions
6.       The wheel / rail contact shall fulfil the requirements mentioned in G.6

BMU vertical wheel loads.
