Unit IG2: Risk assessment

Declaration: By submitting this assessment (Parts 1 – 4) for marking I declare that it is entirely my own work. I understand that falsely
claiming that the work is my own is malpractice and can lead to NEBOSH imposing severe penalties (see the NEBOSH Malpractice Policy
for further information).

Important note: You must refer to the document ‘Unit IG2: risk assessment – Guidance and information for learners and Learning
Partners’ while completing all parts of this assessment. Your Learning Partner should provide you with a copy, but it can also be
downloaded from the relevant resources section for this qualification on the NEBOSH website.

Tasteland Private Limited is a mid-sized food commodities company. Among the items
manufactured and packaged by the company are candies, fruit drinks, canned fruits and
vegetables, sauces, pickles, preserves, frozen, dry and chilled. The raw materials are
sourced from the company's own farms. It first enters processing plants, next sanitary
packaging, and finally a storage room. The plant was separated into two departments:
construction and maintenance. Each department has automatic machines such as boiling
or mixing machines, as well as processing and packing machinery. Workers typically
General description of the organisation engage in high-risk tasks including machinery, mixing and processing of food, manual
handling operations, maintenance work, welding operations, work at height, electrical and
high-voltage systems, and so on. They are subjected to risks such as noise, current,
moving equipment parts etc.

Employees work in two shifts, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and from 5:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m.
There are 350 employees on each shift. The majority of employees are young, with only a
few older employees in the executive team.

wage, not to be put risk of falling ill and diseases, now or in the future, because of the work
activities that they carry out now. Some of the ill health conditions that could be contracted
or injuries that could occur will have a major impact on the lives of the workers and their
family and friends. Long term injuries and infirmity have significant effect on our labourer’s
psychological wellness after their retirement they can't offer different specialists to work in
their organization up until to this point. The role of company is providing safe place and proper
condition for workers to work in good way and to increase their productivity and capacity,
also to protect them from any accident may happen.

Tasteland Private Limited has legal requirement to protects its workers under the ILO’s safety
and Health Convention (C155)

Financial:
Financial impacts in case of any incident that could bear by company are into these three
categories. cost associated with:
1. Injured workers (sick pay, replacement worker wages, medical costs, lost working time
etc.)
2. Cost associated with trainings of new workers
3. Cost associate with civil claims

Learner number: 00658785 Learner name: Anthony Mogus Nwoye Page 13 of 19

4. Cost associate with increase in insurance premium
5. Cost associated with enforcement authority
So, this is a financial argument too, to implement my actions at workplace to minimize risk
for workers.

Legal:
Possible enforcement actions that Tasteland Private Limited could receive include being
served with improvement notices relating to these activities by the regulator. This would have
massive financial impact on organisation if these activities could not continue properly and
even these activities can restrict their certification achievement in all fields and local
Government can also take an action against delay of work. If something goes wrong,
Tasteland Private Limited’s reputation could take a serious hit which could result in loss of
contracts. The likely amount of compensation and civil claims can be substantial; in addition
to this legal fee would also be very high. I would also point out that many of these costs would
not recoverably from the insurance.

Hazards clearly required; Where workers are required to enter any area in which dust or
harmful substance may be present, or in which there may be an air deficiency, or a flammable

There is also requirement ILO`s R177 - Chemicals Recommendation, 1990 (No. 177)that

all appropriate and practicable measures should be taken to substitute harmless or less

bronchiolar and airway destruction resulting in respiratory distress or failure. All the current

I set the category when suggesting the severity in following way:

Minimal: no injury or damage happened.
Minor: injury happened requiring the first aid treatment and/or unimportant damage to the

Major: injury happened requiring the hospital treatment, requiring recovery time, and/or
important damage to equipment and machinery.
Fatal: injuring which causing disability or death, and loss of equipment, machinery or
