To realize the Intended Learning Outcomes, work my way through these steps:
1. Visit a school. Look into facilities and support learning areas in the campus, then in the
classroom.
2. Observe and use the checklist as you move around the school premises.
3. Analyze your gathered data about the school environment.
4. Reflect on the characteristics of a school environment that promotes learning.
5. Present your idea of a good school environment through any of these:
a. Descriptive paragraph c. Photo essay
b. Sketch or drawing d. Poem, song or rap
OBSERVE
As you move around the campus, observation forms are provided for you to document
your observations. It is advised that you read the entire worksheet before proceeding to the
school site. A good understanding of the activities and tasks to be accomplished in the activity
sheet will yield better learning results.
Familiarize yourself with the different areas and facilities of the school. Check the column to
indicate their availability. Give a brief description of those that are available, and say how each
will contribute to the students’ learning and development.
Read the following statements carefully. Then write your observation report on the
space provided.
1. Look at the walls of the classroom. What are posted on the walls? What heroes, religious
figures, lessons, visual aids, announcements, do you see posted?
The classroom walls are clean and neat. There are information and bulletin boards.
Some quotations like “Honesty is the best policy”, the DepEd vision and mission. It’s
simple to look at.
2. Examine how the pieces of furniture are engaged. Where is the teacher’s table located?
How are the tables and chairs/desk arranged?
The teacher’s table is two, they are in front and at the back. They are using
armchairs are facing the blackboard. There are not fewer than fifty learners’ desks and there
are arranged into two columns at the center of the classroom.
3. What learning materials/equipment are present?
There are books, board games, blackboards, electric fans (orbit & wall),
televisions, and an outlet.
Yes, there are many electric fans in the classroom and most of the funds are from
the PTA project.
Be guided by these tasks as you do your observation. Then accomplish the matrix to record your
data.
Location of the School: Mt. Banahaw Street, Brgy. Malaya. FAB, Mariveles, Bataan
This is the first time that I observed at MNHS-Malaya via Zoom meeting amid the
pandemic. It was nerve-wracking because I was a little almost late on my observation. The first
synchronous observation was on 11:00-12:00 noon and the last synchronous observation was on
1:00-2:00 in the afternoon. The topic of the Grade 9 students is all about Quadratic Equations and
the topic of the Grade 11 STEM students is all about Conic Sections. I observe that the students
are not responsive when it comes to recitations I don’t know why and I think they are shy to recite.
After the class, I remain to stay in the Zoom meeting because we discussed his class earlier and
what observations that I observed.
ANALYZE
How do the school campus and the classroom in particular impact the learning of the students
going to school? What are your conclusions?
Many have said that school must always be “s – cool” and the classroom must make the
students feel they are welcome with warmth and care in their “classhome”. The school physical
environment affects the emotions and the mental well-being of the students. The school resources,
structures, and arrangement result to a greater impact especially when it comes to developing the
students not only cognitively, but also their values and characters. In addition, school arrangement
of the learning environment has been related to student focus and behavioral disruptions. The
structure and resources available in the learning environment encompass the opportunities for
learning to occur throughout the space. Specifically, this considers the spaces where students can
be creative and remain engaged in learning. The academic environment itself impacts student
motivation. The characteristics of an academic environment include educator feedback to students,
support for behavioral and academic growth, and discourse about student learning and outcomes.
On the other hand, the school emotional environment reflects the relationships fostered student-
to-student and student-to-educator. Developing a rapport with students and promoting interactions
between students creates an environment that is safe. A safe and secure learning environment
fosters growth in learning.
How does this relate to your knowledge of child and adolescent development/How does this relate
to your knowledge of facilitating learning?
My impression of the child and adolescent development all boiled down to my experiences
as a child and as an adolescent. It is true that environment is crucial to the child’s development as
this affects the children’s psychological well-being. One of the goals of formal education is to
further enhance or develop them holistically. So, it is very necessary for the school to provide the
children a safe, responsive, and nurturing school environments . Such environments also help to
prevent challenging behaviors and serve as a core component of interventions for the young
children with identified disabilities.
The experiences I personally have and the observations I get from the school hone my skills
in facilitating students’ learning. Different behaviors, backgrounds, and abilities taught me how to
adjust and balance my teaching methods or approaches. Likewise, every day is a learning process
for me since I often encounter students that challenge my ability to manage them and to inspire
or motivate them to come back for more.
REFLECT
1. Would you like to teach in the school environment you just observed? Why? Why not?
The environment on a school campus that is favorable to learning is, first and foremost,
clean. It must also be a child-friendly institution. It should have all of the necessary school
facilities, such as a library, a speech laboratory, a computer lab, and other amenities that are
necessary or beneficial to the student's study. Finally, what makes a campus conducive to learning
is the individuals that work there. I'm talking about instructors, principals, and others who should
be child-friendly so that the students aren't put off by their presence.
A classroom where pupils are actively engaged in learning and where the instructor is
concerned about the particular requirements of each student. It requires a teacher that is willing to
work with each student on his or her own learning level. It also necessitates the presence of a good
and loving instructor. A classroom is favorable to learning if it is very clean, well-lit, and
ventilated, if the chairs are excellent and correctly positioned, if students cooperate with one
another, and if the teachers set a good example and treat each student with respect. As a result,
everything in the classroom, including the professors and students, must be favorable to learning.
Actually, I feel I can achieve it if I have life goals, objectives, and aspirations for myself
and my students. I have to think about their well-being and uniqueness. And I won't rely on a single
technique because there is no such thing as a one-size-fits-all approach.
Being teacher is a noble profession, isn’t it. You must be a strong and brave person.
Nothing is simple in this world unless you are prepared. A new medium of instruction has evolved
now that the pandemic has reached the educational system. Both students and teachers are
challenging in this mode of learning especially the students are now on flexible learning.
