FS EPISODE 1:

THE SCHOOL ENVIRONMENT

The O.A.R approach

O. Observe in an actual setting
A. Analyze the observation data and your Experience.
R. Reflect on the experience

This episode 1 provide an opportunity for students to examine and reflect on a school
environment that promotes learning and development.

TARGET YOUR INTENDED LEARNING OUTCOME

At the end of this Episode 1, I must be able to determine the characteristics of
a school environment that is safe, secure, and is supportive of learning (PPST 2.1.1)

1. A physical environment conducive for learning is one that has consistent

practices that:
-keep the school safe, clean, orderly and free from distraction
-maintain facilities that provide challenging activities; and
-address the physical, social and psychological needs of the students.

2. Display boards can be powerful in communicating information about the

learning environment. They help in building and establishing the school
culture. These boards become one way for everyone to learn about the vision-
Mission, goals and values that the school upholds.

3. As a basic part of the school’s visual environment, display boards have four
general purposes:
A. Decorative
B. Motivational
C. Informational
D. instructional

4. The set of criteria for evaluating bulletin board displays includes effective
communication, attractive, balance, unity, interactivity, legibility, correctness,
and durability.
Activity 1.1 Exploring the School Campus

Grade/Year Level:__________ Subject area:_______________
Date:______________

To realize the Intended Learning Outcomes, work my way through these steps:
1. Visit a school. Look into facilities and support learning areas in the campus,
Then in the classroom.
2. Observe and use the checklist as you move around the school premises.
3. Analyze your gathered data about the school environment.
4. Reflect on the characteristics of a school environment that promotes learning
5. Present your idea of a good school environment through any of these:
a) Descriptive paragraph b) photo essay
c) Sketch or drawing d) Poem, song or rap

As you move around the campus, observation forms are provided for you
to document your observations. It is advised that you read the entire work sheet
before proceeding to the school site. A good understanding of the activities and tasks
to be accomplished in the activity sheets will yield better learning results.

MY BOARD DISPLAY LAYOUT

My board display layout was written in Filipino language intended for upcoming
third quarterly examinations at the Dayap National High School Mabacan Annex. It was
titled “Mga Tagubilin Sa Darating Pagsusulit” or Reminders for Upcoming Examinations. It
will state the Date of examinations, scheduled time per subject, who will be administering
the examination and the room assignments. Especially the rules and regulations during
exams. I came up with this idea so will the students will be informed and aware to give
them time to prepare for the exam or review. It will be located near entrance of the school
so that all of students entering the campus can notice the board work. The materials
needed are tarpaulin, wooden frames and clear plastic cover.

1. Name at least five skills that a teacher should have to be able to come up with effective board
display. Elaborate on why each skill is needed.
Answer:
Artistry- Have the passion and love for arts and crafts.
Resourcefulness- being able to meet situations and capable of making alternatives to finish
work.
Creativity- Having ability to execute his or imagined ideas and concept.
Innovative- thinking outside the box. Always aiming for new ideas and concept.
Efficient Worker- think, execute and finish work in most efficient way. With wasting time,
resource and energy.

2. Which of the skills you named in #1 do you already have? Recall your past experience in
making board displays. How do you practice these skills?
Answer:
Based on my previous experience in making any projects I believe that one of the abilities I
have already acquired is being creative and resourcefulness I can say that is extremely
useful in completing my projects and activities. I also learned to be resourceful since, most
of the time, if I have materials that can still be used; I prefer to use them instead of
purchasing new stuff.

3. Which skills do you still need to develop? What concrete steps will you take on how you
can improve on or acquire these skills,
Answer:
I think the skill or ability that still need to develop is the time management, the most
possible way to develop that is avoiding procrastination and selecting priorities.
