II. Directions: Read and analyze the following questions below. Write your answer on the
space provided.

1. What advantages would you reap from playing sports?

Over the past years, there has been a lot of scientific study and research that proves just
how playing different sports contribute to the healthy lifestyle of people. Studies and research
concluded many advantages of playing sports; it affects our physical, emotional, mental, and
social health in a good way.
Personally, playing sports helped me to control my body weight; and whenever I feel down,
I play chess and badminton – and it improves my mood. I also used sports to kill time and
boredom, which I believe helped me until now to prevent loneliness and depression. But I think
the most beneficial thing about playing sports is its aptitude to combat health conditions and
diseases.

2. Do you think that playing sports will promote exercise, safety, and well-being among
teammates, family and community? How?

Yes, I believed that playing sports will promote exercise, safety, and well-being among
teammates, family, and community. First, sports have always been linked to exercise, so no question
playing sports promote exercise; it can be with teammates, family, and even the community. Exercising
through playing sports is great, especially for our mental and emotional health -that is what I believe.
Then, there’s safety, which is kept by the rules that every sport has; and because of that, players
learned and became used to playing sports with safety in mind. Sports teaches us to care for others;
we tend to understand more the word-empathy, not only for our co-players but also for our community.
Since most sports are played by teams, it’s no surprise how numerous social benefits are it
can bring. One benefit it promotes is the well-being of all players, including your family and community.
As we play sports with our teammates, we are like engaging in an open forum. This helps us develop
deeper relationships and connections among our teammates. When we play with our family, we
unknowingly exercise love in a form of sport; it creates strong family bonds, which are essential for
kids’ social and emotional development and everyone’s well-being – adults and children.
In terms of communities, I would say that playing sports have greatly influenced the well-being
and relationship among communities. An open basketball league is an example where communities
helped each other to strengthen their relationships. Sports have no boundaries; through bonds among
teammates, family, and community, a safe and healthy place can be established.
3. Give your opinion or idea about this quote: “What matter most in sports is not winning, it
is how you play the game.”
I find sports as entertaining as watching my favorite movie and as beneficial as eating my
most wanted vegetables and fruits. What I meant by that is that I enjoy sports as to how I enjoy
doing my favorite things. Just like the saying: “What matters most in sports is not winning, it is
how you play the game.” It implies that in every sport, in every game, and every play, you do with
your friends, family, and even community, you need to learn how to laugh with it. There’s no
champion or winners in laughing. The true essence of sports is enjoyment, entertainment,
bonding, and experience. What matters is that you’ve enjoyed running back and forth while doing
a dribble; what matters is that as you smash the shuttlecock with your rocket, you are smiling.
Winning a sports competition is great in feelings and very satisfying, but enjoying sports with your
loved ones is heavenly. Yes, you’ve won your competition, but did you have fun? How did you
play it? Did you show sportsmanship? Enjoying sports is the same as winning a sports
competition!

4. What other physical, emotional, mental and social benefits can you derive from playing
sports?

Aside from the previous activity where I have stated various benefits of playing sports in terms
of physical, emotional, mental, and social, I believe that there are still other benefits we can derive
from playing sports.
Another physical benefit of playing sports is that it lowers the risk of certain types of cancer.
Being physically active or doing exercise lowers your risk of developing several commonly
occurring cancer (e.g., bladder and breast).
Playing sports can also help in our emotional aspect; it helps people to control their addiction.
We all know that sports provide entertainment and relaxation. Through sports, one can make
himself at bay and avoid doing unpleasant things. Sports rehabilitate people and help them align
their thinking and decisions in life.
Mental health is very important to us, so we should always prioritize our peace of mind. Sports,
based on studies, help prevent cognitive decline. We may experience worsening or more frequent
confusion or memory loss as we experience aging - a form of cognitive impairment that can later
lead to Alzheimer's disease. But, the good news is that playing sports can help us prevent this
cognitive impairment, and through that, we can preserve our mental health.
Lastly, playing sports also promotes healthy living, not only physically but also socially. Sports
lower the risk of having negative peer influence, which can lead to the use of illegal substances-
which is detrimental for the person’s health and future. Playing sports with our family and friends
avert us from such worldly wrongdoings; rather, it draws us closer to our loved ones.
